Polk Audio MM 1242 SVC MM1 Series 12" 4-ohm subwoofer

Advanced materials and engineering
Polk Audio rethinks their legendary Mobile Monitor Series subs. Their MM1 Series subwoofers offer superior performance from lighter materials, so you'll get the impact you want without the extra weight of a conventional sub. They use advanced engineering and optimized components to reproduce your sound with uncompromising accuracy, and Polk built these marine-certified subs to take some serious abuse.

Efficient power handling
The MM 1242 SVC 12" 4-ohm subwoofer handles up to 420 watts RMS, with a titanium-coated polymer cone that'll stand the test of time. The fiberglass-reinforced ABS basket resists flexing during heavy excursion, so your sub hits hard without distorting. The sub's inner workings are designed to handle the stress of heavy bass, so go ahead and turn it up.

I hooked up this amp and it started to overheat. The safety wasn’t coming on. I contacted Polk Audio and was told they don’t have this amp anymore and couldn’t do much for me. Very disappointed.

This amp is great running at 1 ohm in 100+ weather and I the amp do not get real hot like my previous Memphis amp. Have not went into protection model after running for 4 hours straight. Great amp.

I purchased this amplifier in 2013 and it’s still working as good as the day I got it! I have moved this into three different vehicles and ran several different combinations of subs and it performed perfectly every time. The amp is small and sleek so you have a lot of flexibility when choosing a mounting location. After going full tilt the amp gets a little warm but has no overheated or went into protect mode.(I do have it mounted so it gets good ventilation though) In my current setup in Honda CR-V I am running 2 Skar Audio SVR 12s (dual 4 ohm) in a large ported enclosure so the final impedance is around 1 ohm. This amp pushes these woofers with ease and and it hits incredibly hard for only 1200 watts! I am also on all stock electrical in my car but I am using an Optima Yellow Top battery. At full tilt my voltage rarely drops below 13.2v but I’m sure with a stronger power source it would have even more output. You’re probably not going to win any SPL competitions with this amp but if you’re looking for clean, reliable and hard hitting bass in your ride I strongly recommend this little beast!

This amp was worth the price. I bought this amp because I just recently got 2 kicker L5 15s which are fantastic subs...anyway Polk audio is a well known brand and I needed more power to push these L5s then what my 400 watt Audiobahn was giving. Also the Polk is 1 ohm stable which makes a world of difference when you wanna push high end subs. If you're looking to replace your old amp or just getting started with your system I urge you to get this amp. Plus if you register the amp on line take the survey and get another year on the warranty.I just want to add that I've had this amp for over a year and it still works like the first day I got it. I've seen others post that it heats up fast. I'm not having that issue. I've got 2 of these polks...2 kicker L5 15s on one and 2 L7 15s on the other. One of my L7s is 4 ohm and the 2nd is 2 ohm both ran in parallel which gives me a .677 ohm load. Yes I was a little worried at first given that the amp is only 1 ohm stable, but let me a sure anyone reading this...this amp can and is holding its own. Does not heat up fast but does get warm. I keep it vented well so nothing around it helps hold the heat. This is a great amp. Don't second guess it just buy it! I hope this helps.

I've always had good luck with Polk products in the past and was Not dissapointed with this Amp. I was suprised at how small it was. Im powering 4 Polk 12's at 1 Ohm and this thing makes them POUND. I Have a Dodge Dakota Etended Cab w/ Topper and the box is mounted in the topper faceing foward. No back window in Cab and no front window in Topper, just an Accordion Boot Seal between the two. The Bass flexes the roof and the windshield about 3/8". It will move someones hair and clothing standing 2 feet away on the outside of the door windows with both windows down. My RTA Meter is currently not working (Needs new power supply), but I guestimate it to be about 150 db, compairing it to many other systems Ive done. It will literally take your breath away. You definitely need a good Battery and Alternator, or at least an extra Battery. This is the lowest Watt (RMS) amp Ive ever used to achieved this level of performance. I would recommend this amp to anyone that wants to Hit Hard. Make sure you have quality speakers as this amp will smoke anything Less

I would have given it 5 stars if it had a built-in sensor to turn on when a signal comes in through the RCAs. It sounds good enough. More than adequate to push my 3 MTX 10s in a ported factory box and they are 4 ohms. I imagine it would be much louder with a 2 ohm or 1 ohm load...
