It took over 5 hours to install by professionals due to poor product quality craftsmanship. We eventually had to drill and install another bolt into the base plate to stabilize it enough to work. This is the 2nd one I bought and both had issues. The first one (Which I purchased 40 days before) had an issue with the mechanism and had to be modified to finally work. The labor install time for these 2 units exceeded $800 CAD. Your quality control is extremely poor.

Although some of the reviews for this product complain about the complexity of the install, I actually didn't not have this issue. It was relatively easy on my Chevrolet. The bigger issue I had is Ive had to order 3 units and I'm hoping this 3rd time is a charm. The first unit didn't accuate at all, the 2nd unit for apx 2 weeks and stopped unlocking and I'm 2 weeks into the third one. Hoping it works for a while.

I can now lock my tailgate. Very good idea for those keeping lots if tools in their truck bed. It was a ton of work to complete. 6 hours to complete. Including problem solving then 3d printing a new part. Mounting the locking mechanism was a little difficult but not bad. Especially considering where it has to go. I don't know what they could've done better. Pretty good design. With the exception that it doesn't lock because the locking pin didn't go far enough. This was a relatively easy fix though as I 3d printed a spacer (pictured) so that it would push it far enough. Running the wire from the tailgate, under the truck, through the firewall, through the door grommet and then splicing into the lock wire was the hardest part. Because it works, it was worth it.

I have searched the internet high and low but cannot find any decent instructions either written or video. The provided instructions on inserting the power lock and subsequent tailgate handle are minimal and poorly written. The pictures only tell you which predrilled holes to use. The tailgate must be removed to attempt to install the lock. Once installed, the power lock does not actually lock the tailgate. A lot of effort and over $100 for nothing.

Tried to install on my 2004 GMC Sierra 2500 and man oh man was that a pain. Got it in after about 5hrs of struggling and trying to hold the thing “just” right only to be able to open my tailgate with a little jiggle of the handle. Any thief that gives even the slightest effort to open your tailgate will be able to open it. This product does not latch hard enough and is not a good solution to locking your tailgate. Do not recommend this product to anyone. Sucks cause you can’t return it after it’s installed so looks like I’m out $100+ for a piece of junk that doesn’t work.

A perfect complement to my new tonneau cover. Now everything is secured at the touch of a button. I didn't want another key which is needed with the manual locking unit.Plan for a good bit of time to install this and run the wiring, etc. there is a good uTube video on the net, the enclosed directions are terrible. Full install approx 4 hours on my truck, but well worth taking your time and getting it right.Highly recommended at firstUpdate 05/24/2016As others have noted this is not very durable. After using it very little, I noticed it started failing to lock/unlock, taking multiple retries with my key. It worsened, so I decided to see what the issue is, perhaps short in wiring. I checked the wiring carefully and found no issues. The problem is the actuator and it is not moving the lock bar at all. It is not hindered in any way. It is so annoying, that I finally gave up and disconnected it today, in anger.Even though they say this has a one year warranty, if you check their web site, it clearly states they will not warranty purchases from Amazon. Quite misleading on their part.Though I really liked this (when it worked), I am now very disappointed.Stay away from this unit...

This tailgate is easy to install and the instructions were pretty clear. The only thing about the instructions is that, I would recommend removing the tailgate and placing it over a surface where you can still reach under the tailgate to unscrew the bolts. I placed it over two bar stools for easy reach. Place it with the face facing up. This way the lock does not slide all over the place while trying to hold the lock and placing the handle over it at the same time. You must also slide the lock into the handle and then slide the assembly into the handle slot or else it will not go together. The other thing is, it is easier to rought the shorter harness from the hole at the bottom of the tailgate up to the handle slot. Just reach in with your hand and the harness is there. Otherwise, run a hard wire (hanger) through and tape the harness to it and pull it with the hanger. The lock works pretty good, however, if you pull up on the handle hard enough and jiggle the tailgate, after installing it, you may be able to open the tailgate. However, I think that it is enough of a deterrent to keep thieves away. Pretty good product. I'm ok with it. Should only take about an hour to install. Longest part was routing it under your vehicle to the front and in through your engine compartment and through the firewall. The lock is loud enough to let you know when it engages or disengages.***UPDATE:*** I have had the lock for about 7 months now and after about 4 months, the lock would quit working off and on. It would unlock about 5% of the time or it would lock about 5% of the time. I ended up breaking a part to the tailgate handle trying to open my tailgate because the lock would not unlock. Several days later as I was getting into my truck, I pressed the button on my remote to unlock the truck, and I head the tailgate latch unlock. Now I have to use a screwdriver to open my tailgate for the reason stated above. Purchase and install at your own risk. I checked the wiring and it is all fine. The solenoid is what is failing. You can hear it trying to open or close as you lock or unlock the truck, but, the solenoid is not fully engaging. Anyone else have this problem? What is the fix?

Installed in a 2000 Silverado. All parts matched up well, the cable lengths were great. Once installed everything works well. The instructions for the electrical connection were good (worked best if you actually read them). I would recommend this product and will put in any new truck I purchase. Instead of running through the firewall, I routed the cable through the floor, emergency brake penetration. The 2000 Silverado has a channel to route the cable along side the emergency brake cable and doesn't require finding an open penetration in the firewall.
