for a hand held unit like this, you would expect it would quickly get the ambient temperature and humidity, however you basically have to turn it on. leave it in the room for several minutes to get a good reading.Not as handy as you would expect.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Comes in a box with a soft fabric case and instructions. It does not come with batteries or a screwdriver to open the case. I have a pet peeve about having to use a tool to access a a battery compartment, especially tiny little non retained screws.One of the pictures on Amazon does state that this device does not come with batteries. At the time of this review it does not state that anywhere in the description.The feel and quality does not seem cheaply made or low quality. It looks robust. A higher price point or more professional version would likely have a rubberized overmolding at not much more of a price point.USE: It is very simple to use, minimal buttons and functions. I shall use it for checking our whole house humidifiers are working and supplying humidity to the floor registers.CONCLUSION: I was able to check the temperature reading against other meters I have and they were consistent to 8/10th of a degree Fahrenheit, although the other two were the same and this was the one that was 8/10ths ofna degree F lower. See the photo of three meters, this meter is in the middle of the photo.Okay, I lost the tiny little screw to the battery cover while undoing it to put the batteries in. I have a GPS that is water resistant and has o-rings at the battery compartment cover. It has a screw in the battery cover. The screw has a folding D ring at the top so you dont need a tool, the screw is retained in the cover so it does not come out all the way and drop to the floor. You could argue that my water resistant GPS needs a screw to make it water tight. This meter does not.REVIEW PHILOSOPHY: I only review a product if it is something I am capable of critically evaluating through comparison, testing and use. This means I have experience of using similar items; or that I have equipment or tools that I can test it with; or that I have an upcoming need so I can actually use. I am as selective about getting an item to review as I would be about purchasing that same item, so yes, I expect it to be a good product. My reviews are NOT based on packaging or if it was delivered timely.

The build quality at this price point is EXCELLENT... its rubberized finish will take a fall or two!comes with case and instructions...Display is decent size considering the very modest price point...the real test is, how does it read?Brought out my FLUKE of the same, (industry standard) and compared readings, and remarkably, they were very close, within +/ - 1%. That is impressive, as the fluke meters are 15x this price... I only tested at normal ambient temps, so maybe at the extremes this will not be as accurate, as that is typically what more costly meters excel at ...at this price point, u can not go wrong, 5 stars, recommended

I got this meter to use indoors for air conditioning service work and outdoors for controlled burning of forests. In the A/C world I need accurate temp and wet bulb temperature readings and a rough humidity reading to adjust the freon charge. This unit provides those numbers on a easy to read screen. When doing a controlled burn I need temperature, dew point and humidity to burn safely. These numbers are easily displayed on this unit. I checked the accuracy of this meter against several other thermometers and gauges. I found it to be within a 2 degree range of the other meters most of the time it was 1 degree low.. It takes a minute or two for it to adjust to the temp and humidity in a new environment. Just be patient if you want accuracy. I really like that it is small enough to fit in a pocket. or small pouch. The meter is one of the lower priced ones and works great for my purposes. I highly recommend it.
