My Porter Cable Dovetail unit did not come with this plate. I am so glad that I was able to get it, so I can easily make tight fitting dovetails.

Well, this should be included with the original kit, but whatever. It is the same quality as the half blind dovetail guide. It works great, but shouldn't be an extra 75 bucks. It comes with the guide, the bushing and the router bit needed in addition to the bushing and router bit that comes in the original kit to make through dovetails. Read the manual, then set up the device. Read the manual again. It will be very easy to use once you understand how it works. The cuts are very accurate and this is a very easy way to cut dovetails. Since there are 2 different size bushings, make sure you use the right one for the pins or tails.

Box was the original Porter Cable box, not aftermarket, came with a decent router bit and template guide bushing. Had to assemble it, not a problem. Very satisfied. Fits Porter Cable 4216 jig perfectly.

Very easy to use, just requires the patience to "dial it in" I make cabinets and furniture for a living and I love this jig.

Adding this review to help answer the "what's in the box?!" question since the description is a little confusing when it comes to which bit/guide is included. In the box there is the template and associated hardware, a straight bit needed for through-dovetails and the correct size guide for through-dovetails. It's everything you need to cut through-dovetails (in addition to the parts that came with your 4210 jig/half blind kit). The straight bit mentioned in the description that is "sold separately" is for cutting box joints, which this template can also be used for. If you want box joints, you need another straight bit.

The only reason for 3 stars is because they provide the wrong bit with the kit. According to the manual when making finger joints you require a 1/2" straight bit. Well they provide a bit but its 13/32, which is close but it doesn't work. Once I put the half inch bit in this this works great. They should include the correct 1/2" straight bit with the kit.

I used this to make real wood drawers for my cabinets. The cabinets installed in our kitchen when our house was built have really nice maple facia but to keep costs down the drawers are made of paper laminated flake board or OSB(oriented strand board). So being mechanically inclined, I thought I would remake the drawers in oak with real nice dovetails. This jig helped me make real nice tight dovetails that only cost me the price of material, the jig and my time. Not knocking the real professional wood workers but to get my cabinets with real wood drawers with dovetails would have cost at least 5 times more. The professionals use the same Porter Cable jigs, and with some time invested, you could get the same results.

I originally bought the 4210 PC jig which only allowed me to route half blind dovetail. I really liked the jig and decided to invest a little more (I whish I bought the package with both template at first) and bought the through templet. The setup is a little more difficult than the half blind one. It requires two passes, one for the pins and one for the tails. Each pass is done with a different router bit. This kit only provide the straight bit and assume you already have the actual dovetail bit provided with the 4210 PC jig. But overall the setup is fast and easy with a little training and as long as the router bits are sharp provide excellent results. If you have a lot of joinery to do in one shot, I strongly suggest using two routers, this will allow you to keep the height adjustment and speed up your work. This template also allows you to do box joints. I did try and it works but I find it more painful than doing it on the table saw. Also I found that the second steps which is to use the first piece to align the second piece with the template is not very accurate and often lead to small offset. The main complain I have with this jig is that the bit provided wear off very fast (same with the dovetail one). I suggest ordering the bits from whiteside, they provide the approriate size and actully reference them PC jig.
