So far so good. 7.3 spins over the fastest it ever has. Original starter lasted 23 years.

Just installed in my e99 f-250 7.3. 250k miles and the starter appeared to be the factory original. Taking out the old starter was harder than installing the new one. I recommend removing the wiring from the old starter and then unbolting. I was able to remove the top bolt with a cut down wrench. It would be possible to do with a stubby.Installing the new one was super easy. It’s not that heavy. You can hold it up with one hand and start the 3 bolts by hand. The wiring faces down on the new unit so it’s accessible after you bolt it up. You can do the swap in under 30 minutes easily. Make sure to clean old truck side connections.I installed 2 new batteries along with this new starter. Before my truck was cranking long and slow. Usually would take 2 cycles to get it to fire up. With the new starter and batteries it cranks suuuuper fast. A lot faster than the factory starter. I just installed so no experience long term but I would highly recommend it.

Turns the ol' diesel extremely fast, great starter, deducted one star because the way the starter is designed means the top bolt is almost impossible to access and tighten, but starter functions like a champ!Quit working today, do not buy

I read multiple reviews, etc. Before purchasing. I was having issues with stock 7.3 starter for months and finally bit the bullet and purchased this starter. Removal of stock starter was quick and painless. Installation of new starter was a pain on top bolt. Had to cut down 15mm wrench and blindly reach and tighten, took some time on that 3rd top bolt but was able to get it. Now let me tell you !!!!! Be ready when you turn over for first time. Motor spins over so fast you'll think you just bought new truck. Absolutely night and day difference when starting. Well worth every penny and investment. Starter has been in for few weeks now with no issues starting great. Absolutely pleased with purchase.

In summary, stopped working and damaged the truck. Now for the details, bought this in February of 2024 from Speedway Motors Amazon store. Started having issues with skipping or teeth not lining up pretty quickly after install. Uninstalled and reinstalled making sure everything was correct, it was, everything torqued down as it should have been. Took it the shop because there was some feedback about possibly needing to cut the spacer plate but completely stopped engaging the starter/engine once there. Took it all apart and found that aside from the starter no longer working, the flywheel has been damaged.Contacted Power Master who said I had to go through Speedway Motors regarding starter warranty. Speedway Motors said they didn’t have warranty support but would forward my info to their marketplace, never heard back from them. It looks like they delisted this starter on their store now also. Power Master did say I could send it back to them at my expense to see if the starter would be warrantied. At this point even if they gave me a new one I don’t think it is worth the $1,000 repair bill to replace the flywheel which I now have to do. I was very excited for the high torque starter to help with Midwest cold morning starts, put very disappointed with all the trouble that has resulted. The truck was probably started 100 times in the past years since installed, so not a ton of use.

I don't leave reviews very often, but this gear reduction starter is just what my 1997 Powerstroke needed. At 214,000 miles the old starter was getting slow. I checked all the usual items, glow plugs relays cables etc.. All items checked ok, it just cranked slow and was slow to start. After installing the Powermaster it starts right up, barley hit the key. Very impressed, 7.3 liter Powerstrokes take a lot of cranking power, this unit fits the bill!

I am 64 and did not have any problems installing this starter on my 2002 Excursion. Yes the top bolt is a challenge But it can be done. I used a 15mm 1/4” drive socket, universal with an extension to get it seated and final tighten with a 15mm wrench without having to cut it. The battery cable and solenoid wire where easy to connect facing down.It starts So Nice I got second one for my other 7.3L truck. These are the Best upgrade for your 7.3l.

This starter is great! I'm really impressed with how much faster the engine cranks over now. It fit fine on a late 1999 f250 2wd with a 7.3l and a manual transmission with no need to clearance the cross member. The only modification needed was flattering out the 90 degree bend on the end of the battery cable. It fits using all 3 bolt mounting holes the original starter uses unlike some of the other starter options I’ve seen. The starter itself was coated in a heavy crinkle black paint, not bare aluminum like the picture shows. It came with new mounting bolts. I'll be putting this starter on a couple other 7.3's as well in the near future now that I've tried one out. I'll update this review if it ends up having any problems.Update 8/28/18. I installed another one of these starters on an early 1999 4wd 7.3l f250 with an automatic transmission. It works amazing as well. Fit perfect with no modification except flattening out the end of the cable were it attaches to the starter. It also came with the black wrinkle paint finish instead of the bare aluminum finish shown in the picture. It came with mounting bolts. The previous starter I installed in the other truck is still working perfectly. Cranks so fast it starts without letting the glow plugs warm up. You won’t regret this purchase.
