We installed a large fiberglass door and wanted the clean look of a long door pull and single deadbolt.Skipping the traditional door knob/latch meant that when the door was closed but deadbolt not locked, the door could freely swing open, which is a problem.One solution is a ball catch, but we heard that they can change in effectiveness over time. We heard about a magnetic catch and it made a ton of sense. Nothing to wear out over time.We had our contractor install it and it does a great job of keeping the door securely closed without making it difficult to open.A strong wind might still dislodge it, but it’s actually pretty strong. It feels like the door is being latched, even though it’s just the magnet pulling it and holding it in place.Really awesome so far, we love it.

This solved my problem for a door that would not stay shut. I tried a ball latch and also tried messing with the hinges. The door is meant to be a secret door so I couldn’t use a standard handle and latch. This magnet really grabs it shut, very impressive since the door weighs over 100 pounds.

The magnet is strong enough to compress the weather striping on the exterior door it was installed on. Take care to keep the plates separated so your fingers dont get bloody. The magnets are really strong, take my word for it.
