I've hunted/caught lobsters in the Florida Keys for over three years, first using the standard tickle stick and net, later using the less-expensive fluorescent green standard two-handed snare; both of these tried and true methods work great under different circumstances. I won't have the chance to use this in the water for another month, but it looks good upon initial inspection, despite needed some repairs (one of which I don't fault the manufacturer for). First, the shaft was bent to the point that it wouldn't automatically spring closed, this was easily fixed by CAREFULLY bending back to mostly straight with a couple of wrenches. This could've been bent in shipment or while at the AZ warehouse, so no issue. The next repair is potentially unnecessary, but should've been addressed by the manufacturer. There's a slit in the tubing where it was ground down after pinching the end closed to provide a narrower opening as a cable swage stop (pictured). This slit is right where the swage impacts, and will likely cause damage over time. Finally, one recommendation would be to make the label orange or some other bright color, instead of sea-blue, so it's easy to spot if (when) dropped. I actually dropped a fluorescent green snare about a mile offshore, but found it a couple weeks later while hunting the same area. I have some red heat-shrink tubing that I'll be using to make it brighter, which will end up covering the label.

We hunt lobsters every weekend, and while I like the spring-loaded design for automatic closure, the weld at the tip has a minor split that I can see opening with continuous use. It is twice as long as a traditional noose because of the spring load design, and you have to release high on the tail to keep the lobster from wiggling out. It is made of thick stainless steel construction for secure capture and has anti-corrosion properties for reliable performance in marine environments. So far, so good.

If you want to have no hassle catching a lobster I recommend this particular lobster snare. Just came back from the keys and it makes snaring so much easier with one step. Excellent choice.

Lobster snares need practice before using as the lobster can sense if you touch their antennae or legs so you really need to position the noose so when the lobster moves backward that it moves toward the noose rather than away from it. The spring loaded one handed design works but needs practice to time. The other use of the noose is to cut off the escape route so you can simply grab a Pacific Lobster as they have no claws and once you have a hold of them with gloves - it's just a matter of bagging them into a catch bag.

I ordered this for my husband to use for lobster spearing in the Bahamas. It’s a good strong durable quality rod that’s lightweight and easy to handle.

Unfortunately I'm not an underwater gopro kinda guy so I don't have footage of this in action. But I was able to catch several Caribbean spiny lobster just offshore in the Florida Keys. I find it easier to sneak up on them with this thin stick rather than a net. Took some practice and patience but it worked once I got the hang of it.
