While I was not at all impressed with the “directions,” the parts were carefully crafted and packed and assembly was intuitive. Everything lined up and fit perfectly. The mounting system allows for perfect leveling before hanging and creates a strong and flush attachment to the wall. The result is a furniture-grade unit that fits in almost any decor. If and when we decide to sell our house, my guess is that the buyers will want to make it part of the deal. It’s that good. I like that it provides space to segregate CDs based on genres. Yes, I know I’m old school in my appreciation for tangible musical assets, but if you’re like me and still collecting discs, this will house your stash in style.

Little pricey but served my multimedia storage need. I did not use it as a floating shelf so can’t speak for that portion of it. I Required two of them to store my Blu-Ray collection in which, these shelves are absolutely perfect for that! Adjustable shelves allowed customizable spacing. Fairly straight forward to assemble. Second unit assembled in half the amount of time as I had a firm grasp from the first go around. It’s fairly flimsy particle board but what isn’t now a days with assemble yourself furniture? Looks great in the man cave!!

My unit arrived in perfect condition - no damaged pieces, scuffs or scratches. I did have to wipe each piece down due to wood dust. I've put together many pieces of furniture and these shelves are easy to assemble. It's very sturdy and doesn't feel cheap like some of the reviews state.Instructions say to secure the piece using 3 screws into studs 16" apart. My wall studs are 24" apart so was only able to secure it to two studs. While it still felt sturdy, I used extra mounting screws in the drywall between studs for my own piece of mind.It looks great up on my wall and holds 30 blurays tightly per shelf (360 total), but I would only put 29 per shelf because it makes it very difficult to remove a case when you squeeze in 30. Plus, many of the cases in my collection are not normal bluray sizes, and due to the front pillars blocking the ends of each shelf, one disc on each side becomes hidden and you have to remove discs to access them. The bottom of each shelf is unpainted, but it's not noticeable with my setup.I would definitely buy another one should the need arise.

Nice solid quality wood. Assembles very securely and everything fits together nice. With some basic tools (socket set/screw drivers) are all you need to assemble this shelf easily. Take the time to read the instructions, I skimmed them and ended up having to go back and change 1 thing. Was my fault and all in all it went together very well. I really like how it gets mounted on the wall. You mount a included board/hanger into a stud and then just hang the entire shelf on it. It sits secure and gives the shelf a very sleek look free of visible screws. Plenty of adjustments for the shelves, so you can customize what you want to put in it.

For someone who isn't all that handy, I found this unit fairly easy to assemble if you take your time. I spent about 1.5 hours, but only because I had to redo a step (details below). Once assembled it looks very nice and holds a surprisingly large number of CDs. I thought at first I might have to buy two of these, but one more than handled my collection. The unit arrived in pieces and most were covered in a layer of dust as others have mentioned. It was easy to wipe off, but I wonder why this wasn't done at the factory. I found the instructions somewhat confusing in a few places. The thing that tripped me up, mentioned by other reviewers, is you have to make sure the two inner vertical support pieces are assembled with the holes facing the front of the unit. This is so you can put the decorative front pieces on them later. The instructions do not make this clear and the boards aren't marked in any special way. I had to unscrew them and reverse them once I realized my mistake. The tools I used were a hammer, a level, a stud finder, and an electric drill / screwdriver. The electric screwdriver was very valuable and I'd consider it a must-have for putting this together. The unit attaches to the wall very nicely by hanging on a lipped board you affix to your wall. It is very sturdy assuming you drill into a wall stud. The only fault I can make is the decorative front pieces and sides cover up some of the storage space. If you pack your CDs in too tightly the CDs can go behind these pieces, making them difficult to pull out. You can use some of the extra metal studs that the shelves sit on to stop the CDs from getting lost back there, but there aren't enough extra ones for every shelf. As noted by others, the bottoms of the shelves are not finished and are thus lighter in color than the finished parts. However this wasn't a problem for me. I can't see these areas when hung up on the wall, even with the shelves empty.I'm very pleased with the unit for the price I paid for it.

This hanging media unit solves a big problem I had with lack of available floor space for a standing unit. It went together quickly, had all the parts, and looks great on the wall. Unlike other floor-standing units, it has a "face frame" - framing on the front of the unit that makes it look more like a finished cabinet and helps make it stronger and more stable. While this looks really nice, and makes it very strong, the downside is that the frames obscure one item on each side of each shelf. In my configuration I have 12 shelves, including the bottom. So 24 items - for me, 12 CDs and 12 DVDs - would end up hidden behind the frames where you cannot see the title and you would need to temporarily remove adjacent items to get those end ones out. So I will end up putting in empty "filler" DVD & CD cases in all those end spots because I want to be able to see all my titles without moving things around. That wastes some space (about 8% of total shelf space), which is my only issue with the design. But it still holds a lot of stuff, and is a big help. Also note that it is designed to most efficiently hold only CDs. If you have a mix of DVDs & CDs, or only DVDs, there will be some unusable space at the top left over. The mounting system is a horizontal board you screw into the wall studs which has a full-length lip that mates with a similar board on the unit. I found it really easy to hang and make it level, and it feels very strong, which is important with so much stuff on it. The manufacturer, Prepac, always ships units direct from the factory, so it really doesn't matter who you order it from, just go for the lowest price. Fast shipping: I ordered on a Tuesday, got it the following Monday! Warning: the box is very heavy and it helps to have 2 people to carry it. But it was packed well to prevent shipping damage. I've never found a storage unit this nice in any local store, so online shopping totally wins out here.Update - a second minor thing to be aware of: this unit does have a noticeable odor of particle board, even after 3 weeks so far on a wall in an open room. I have mine in a spare room, so it's not a big deal, but if you are thinking of putting it in a bedroom someone sleeps in, you might want to reconsider - I'd have trouble sleeping with that odor, especially with the door closed, and it is taking a lot longer for the smell to dissipate than I expected.
