The hex head allows for lag screws to be tightened with more torque than can be used on Phillips head screws, though a pilot hole is still required prior to installation. Note that lag screws do not accept nuts as they are technically thick heavy duty wood screws with threads designed to cut into wood. They are ideal for use on decks since installation can be accomplished without having access to both ends of the fastener, as opposed to standard hex bolts that require a nut on the opposite end.

These are good strong screws, but the measurement reflects the overall length rather than using the standard measurement system of measuring from the bottom of the cap (measuring the shank and thread portions, also called the body). As long as you know they are 1/8 inch shorter than expected, they are fine.

It performs good. But then again. How do you screw up making a bolt.

What can you say about a bolt. They work well, if they did not I guess it would be something to say about them.

Worked as expected. Pre-drilling helps. Do yourself a favor and pick up the correct size socket head and drive in with a power tool. My drill did smell funny after driving 16 of these into 4x4’s but that was better than a sore arm.
