Bought to replace a 20 year old metal latch that had broken, supposedly like for like but ended up redrilling to fit the new one, the new latch and handle works fine but as with other reviews I have my doubts to the longevity of the plastic parts, still what do you want for the price.

Only giving four stars because some parts were metal and some were plastic. That was disappointing. However, it did save me, as no box store, or even the little hardware store on my corner, had this. I replaced my old one that broke and nobody was the wiser. They just thought I painted my old one. Big fan, and I will likely order another to keep in stock in case this ever goes away forever.

after several decades, the spring that returns the outside button disintegrated, and the inside latch was heavily worn and sticking, so I found the closest replacement to the original (same screw spacing for holding latch, bottom of outside handle, strike bar) - this made it quite easy to replace the old latchthe instructions were miserable, good thing I had seen how the old one went together (no mention of the internal push bar from outside button to inside latch that looks like it would be trimmed in length based upon the thickness of your door, and only a tiny unclear diagram of the order parts went together)The outside button and push bar (mentioned above) on this new latch are cheap plastic. If the thin plastic push bar starts to bend or flex over time, it will not operate the inside latch to allow the door to open. This bar is centered behind the outside button to open the door, and transfers the push from the button to operate the inside latch that holds the door closed. Far thinner than a pencil, and about 3 inches long, making this part out of plastic is asking for trouble. If the interior latch sticks at all, anyone outside will likely push the button harder, further distorting the push bar which will then function even worse until you give up and replace the entire door latch again. I reused the old metal button and push bar (same design latch, push bar the same length so it was already trimmed for width of door). Not clear if the intent of using plastic on critical parts was to save a few pennies, or to create a way for the latch to fail early and perhaps sell more replacement latches in a couple years, instead of decades.

Hardest part of installing was lining up the screws, other than that it was was easy. Working well.

At first, I bought 2 of these. One for my the front and back doors. They were easy to install. The outside handle on the one I installed on the front door broke off after a few days. I think a delivery person broke it off, and kept going. I bought another one to replace it. So, that makes 3 that I bought. The one I installed on the back door has a defect. For the first several days, it was fine. However, now when it is unlocked, I can't open it from the outside. It's as though it's locked. That's not good. Finally, the outside handle broke off on a cold day.I cannot recommend this handle.
