I like how you can arrange to you own specifications. I was able to put all of my portable sound equipment in the case. DR-40 Recorder, 2 wired lapel microphones, and cords.

I like the general simplicity of using this device. Easy to set the recording level and activate recording mode. I used the DR-05x two days after receiving it to record a 20 minute acoustic rehearsal followed by a 30 minute 'amplified' stage set. I simply adjusted the recording level to achieve that safe "non peak" zone prior to each use, and the recording came out just fine. I will say that the Owner's Manual is pretty close to useless, for trying to understand how to execute specific commands. I downloaded the manual from the Tascam website that is FAR better than the basic Manual in the box.I am still learning how to achieve the more advanced abilities of the unit, but I expect it will all come about through trial and error and I am fine with that. It is an easy playback methodology, but you do need either a decent headphone set or external speaker to listen to your recording. I have used both, and it works just fine. I purchased a 128GB SDXC insert so I can record 'forever' on the that one card. Selecting individual files and playing back and/or deleting them is a piece of cake. I will be using this unit to record rehearsals and live performances so I (and the band) can gain that all-important audio feedback "reality" that can reveal the difference between the subjective how you "think" you sounded vs. the objective how you REALLY sounded. This is great, affordable, and portable tool to improve your craft and even memorialize your performances.

You have to push out little foam squares in order for it to fit your equipment. And there's only foam on ONE side of the case. I used the foam I pulled out, glued it to the back of a paper towel, and used it to cover the top of my mic.

I realized this case was a mistake from the moment I saw it, yet I optimistically hoped for the best and didn't return it.The problem is an insanely bad design. The carry handle is on the hinge side of the case. If the case is not completely zipped up, the item you are trying to protect, falls out, lands on concrete and gets damaged. Trust me, I know. And I have to take some responsibility for failing to confirm the case was zipped up completely.To a degree, items could fall out if handle were on the conventional side, but I feel there would be a better chance of noticing and even catching the item before it fell. It it falls out from the bottom, it has a head start over your reaction time.I can't recall of a single camera bag, instrument case, purse or luggage I've encountered with the handle on the hinge side of the case, so that it opens at the bottom.Since the electronics are now damaged, there's not much point in protecting them, so I'm returning the case. Regret the day I bought it.
