I still need to test this. It was not cheap but is recommended by ABYC if you have shore power. Make sure you use a fail safe type of galvanic isolator.

Wanted to install a Galvanic Isolator to my Catalina sailboat when I brought over to my local marina just in case there were issues with stray current. Easy to hook up and fixed my zinc corrosion problem immediately! The biggest challenge is finding a place to put it because it is kind of big.

Arrive on time. I installed it on a Island Packet 31 sailboat. Hopefully this will lengthen the time between zink replacements on propeller shaft from 3 months. Time will tell. Gave a 4 rating instead of 5 because I have not had it long enough to see if it makes a difference. - It did make a difference. Zink last for at least 2 years, the time between haul out and bottom painting.

Well- we had some issues with stray currents here at the marina. Replacing my zincs every 3 months or more. Had a marine certified electrician (ABYC, master) look over my electrical system top to bottom and everything was fine on my side so it was definitely coming from somewhere in the marina. Then the unthinkable happened- I went to wash my hands in the aft sink and I got zapped. Hard. Quick test of the faucets showed they were all electrified with AC voltage. SCARY! Unplugged at the dock box, called back my electrician and he came and checked everything- and again everything was fine on my boat. Then we watched a neighbor unplug from the dock box seconds after we tested the sinks which were still hot and we tested again and voila- no more electricity. Neighbor had been doing his own wiring and electrician surmised he wired something wrong. Marina refused to do anything about it. My electrician installed this. Pricey, yes, but guess what- I haven't been zapped once and my zincs are in perfect condition 6 months later. Crazy story but true. Buy it, you won't be sorry.
