Good deal for those needing brake overhaul. New pads and levers alone would probably cost more than getting this set. Note the new brake arms and adjustment screws seem somewhat lower quality (softer screws, less metal on arms) than the 2003 Promax ones they replaced. Still the new ones work great.

Original brakes had plastic parts that broke apart. These are metal and upgrade from original parts. Highly recommend.

I recently bought a bike from Canadian tire and the person who assembled the bike did not put the brakes on properly at all and they squealed extremely loudly and did not bring my bike to a stop even after adjusting the brakes myself, so I ordered these promax brakes fairly easy to swap them out and now I brake on a dime.There hasn't been any squealing from the brakes and so far one month into using them everything is fine without issue. These set of brakes were a great deal and perform as they should the brake levers themselves seem to be an upgrade as they appear to be made fully out of metal no cheap plastics and feel much nicer than the stock ones that came on my bike which were made fully out of plastic. so for anyone needing a quick replacement set of brakes or are replacing the stock ones on a canadiantire bike or just worn out brakes period I highly recommend these brakes as a cheap but reliable replacement

Solidly built, they seem to be mostly steel so on the heavy side but super durable. The brake feel is excellent - the levers and brake arms respond well with lots of modulation. The return springs are also quite strong and quickly return to the open position when you let go. The brake pads are quiet with lots of grip, and function well in the rain when the rim is wet. Unlike some reviewers, my brakes did not have any plastic parts that I noticed. Overall, they are absolutely worth the money and a worthy upgrade for replacing old cantilevers or cheap department store brakes.

They are ok for rebuilding bikes with brakes that need to be replaced... all metal levers, and good construction. Definitely an improvement over Wally World type garbage.

I've bought 2 sets of these for a couple older bikes. No nonsense. Easy set up and adjustment. Good enough for me braking power. Replace when needed with good pads on these and you're set!

It works great! Comes with brake pads but NOT cable. Don't forget the cable and housing if your stringing new brakes. If you're doing a repair, and you already have good brake cables, you will have everything you need (with a 5mm Allen wrench, that is...)

I bought these to replace the brakes on my 95 Nishiki mountain bike. I have been slowly upgrading the components on my bike and these fit and work great, although I had to replace the brake cables to fit these new style brakes.( I had cantilever before) I have been riding with these for several weeks now, and they stop great and no noise! These might be a lower end set of brakes, it is a good start if you are on a tight budget like me. I would definitely recommend these to all those DIY's that like working on your own bikes.

I only need the front break system, but it will be good to have as a replacement.Very easy to install and good quality
