I wish I would have tested this before now but when you’re in the middle of a construction project and it’s not time for epoxy pours yet you may not have the propane until you’re ready. The igniter doesn’t work at all. No click. Nothing. Probably too late to return. Now I have to suspend my project for another few weeks.Either try it out as soon as you get this or just buy another brand.

Good heat output and ignites on first trigger pull. I’ve left it connected to a tank with no leakage.

There is a lot that is right with this torch and one glaring shortcoming. What I like about it…1) It has heft to it. It is solidly built.2) The handgrip has a slight sandy feel to it that reduces the possibility of the torch slipping in your hand.3) The ignitor consistently works provided you trigger it quickly. Simply slowly depressing the ignitor will not produce the spark needed to light the torch; it will just release gas.4) The flame lock button locks the ignitor button in the “On” position allowing you to release it while using the torch. (But See Below).5) The flame is strong and hot. (But See Below).6) The torch seals tightly onto the gas bottle.7) The instructions, which are concise, but thorough, caution against tipping the cylinder at more than 60 degrees because doing so may cause the torch to flare. With that in mind I used the torch to braze the antlers of a metal lawn ornament (see pictures). During the brazing process I did tip the torch between 45 and 60 degrees several times. The flame never faltered. (The instructions state that the torch has a built-in regulator to reduce that risk when the bottle is tipped).8) The price is very good. What is not to like…1) As mentioned above, the flame produced by this torch is strong and hot, and that is a very good thing because you cannot adjust the flame – at all. This torch is either all the way on or all the way off. There is no adjustment knob. The lack of this feature is unexpected – at least it was for me. In the advertisement under “STEPS FOR USAGE”, step 2, tells and illustrates how to ignite the torch. Then step 3 says “Then press lock button to fix the flame size”. When I first read that I assumed that meant that after you had regulated the flame to the size you needed, you pressed the lock button to maintain that size flame. Ah, but you know the consequences of assuming.Needless to say, I was a little surprised when I discovered the truth. Fixing the flame – the one size flame – means to keep the torch burning without having to continuously hold down the ignitor button with your finger.Would I have ordered this torch if I had understood that it did not have a flame control? Probably not, but after having used it successfully to braze my lawn ornament (after previously being unsuccessful using a torch that has a flame control), I am glad I ordered it. And I would order it again if need be. The flame (the one flame) it produces (I used propane, not MAPP gas), worked perfectly for what I needed, and I have no doubt it will light campfires or BBQs or sear meat or whatever your need is.I truly want to give this torch a 5-Star rating, but with it advertised that way it is I believe a 4-Star rating is warranty – not on performance, but on expectations of what you are getting.
