GM DEALERSHIP REPORTED THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE HOOD STRUTS. FOR $250, THEY WOULD DO IT. SINCE I JUST SPENT A FORTUNE ON A TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT 8k, I WAS LOOKING TO SAVE A FEW DOLLARS. ORDERED THESE STRUTS FOR $21. USING A VERY SMALL FLAT HEAD SCREWDRIVER, I PRYED AND REMOVED THE HOLDING CLIPS AND EASILY REMOVED THE STRUT. THE NEW STRUT EASILY JUST SNAPPED INTO PLACE. LESS THAN 5 MINUTES PER STRUT. THERE ARE YOUTUBE VIDEOS OUT THERE FOR DOING THIS. THE NEW STRUTS WORK FANTASTIC. I POP THE HOOD AND RAISE IT ABOUT A FOOT UP AND THE STRUTS TAKE IT FROM THERE AND FULLY OPEN THE HOOD! AWESOME!!

These were an exact fit for my Hummer H3. After removing the old, worn-out struts these were a cinch to install and took less than 5 minutes. Work great and my engine hood works like new. They even came with the ball mounts in case those needed to be replaced as well. Good product!

Very good hood struts. They include mounting hardware in case your vehicle has different mounts. I didn't need the hardware as these simply snapped perfectly into the place of the originals (2006 Hummer H3). Install took less than 5 minutes and most of that was me looking for a wrench to provide the leverage to pop the old hood struts off and finding someone to hold the hood up while I changed the first strut out. Literally you're done in a snap, well technically 4 snaps for the whole job. I don't know how long they'll last but they look the same as the originals and they're doing a great job now. I suppose next Winter will tell the tale on how long they live. They hold the hood up well even in wind yet there is no excessive force required to close the hood when you're done. No more searching for a broomstick or asking for volunteers to hold the hood while I check the oil!

I watched several YouTube videos on replacing these struts. Believe me, it's much easier than they make out. All you need to do is insert a small flat-headed screwdriver under the small spring steel strap on the installed strut and pry it off (a pair of pliers is helpful for removing the strap). Once it's removed, just lift the end of the strut off the round ball joint. Do the same for the other end and "Taa-daa", you're almost done. The new unit really just snaps into place. One of the YouTube vids showed a guy straining to 'half-remove' the springs on the replacement part. Don't bother. They snap into place effortlessly. Tug on it to be sure but, they go on without any problems. This item comes with replacement ball joints in two different sizes. I didn't need them. If yours are rusted out though, it's a nice thought (especially on a $28 part). One final observation: Most of the the 15-minutes I spent on this job was finding a prop to hold my hood in the fully upright position. The shafts on these struts come fully extended so, your hood has to be fully upright when you install them. My carport isn't tall enough to accommodate that so I had to pull out of the carport.I've heard rumors that the original struts only last a couple of years or so. Even if that's true, they're so inexpensive and so easy to replace that, I'll deal with it.
