I used this kit to successfully restring my son’s first baseman’s mitt. The rawhide lace is strong and a great match to the color of the glove, and the included tool was just right for the repair.

My son inexplicably took a liking to an old glove that I've had since I was a kid. The laces along the fingers and the pinky had seen better days so I got this kit to replace just those parts. It worked out fine for that but the tool that is provided is really difficult to use. It's already too big for some of the holes and there's no good way to get the laces secured without making it that much larger. I just had to use a LOT of force to get it through and get creative with how I secured it to the eyelet. It seems like the more needle type tools wouldn't be that much more expensive to include in the kit but I do know that this is more for just small repairs and for that, at this price point, I'd buy it again. if you're planning to do anything other than just a small job you'll definitely throw that tool across the room and buy a better one though.

Good quality lacing tool. A must have for any coaches bag. Got a lot of use out of it over the years repairing busted gloves during practice or games.

This worked perfect to replace a lace in my son’s glove that snapped. The provided tool made it easy to complete the task. First time replacing a glove and it turned out perfect and didn’t take too long.

I was eventually able to get this to work, but i'm working on a very old glove and the head of the tool is so bulky, i worried the whole time it would tear the leather out. I admit, it did not, but i only used it when i really needed to. (And i also used a round punch tool to kind of expand the holes before using this. )As an example, when replacing the lacing around the pocket of the glove, i only used this tool when dealing with the THUMB or FINGER holes, not the holes in the POCKET. That made it harder to work on, but meant i could push this tool thru the double holes in the thumb, then pull the lace back thru. THen, if it needed to be inserted into the pocket too (depends on direction of the thread), i'd do that by hand, just poking it thru (because the pocket leather is thin and you can see it.) When i tried to use the tool to push thru all 3 layers, it got stuck, and again, i tearing really seemed possible. It's really like the head of the tool is too big once you thread the leather lace thru it. Unless you glove already had quite large holes punched in it, i'd say that will be an issue. (Hence my advice to get a needle - i think that would work much better. Didnt realize until i tried this tool.) I gave it 3 stars because it did eventually work (i cut the lace ends so they were thinner too), but i would not buy again.

I bought this to repair my 35+ year old glove, where the laces connecting the thumb to the webbing had disintegrated. I still haven’t tried it in the field yet, but it seems to have worked well and to be very solidly retied.I used only about 1/2 of the provided lace. I don’t think you could relace an entire glove, but it more than enough for my small area.I was worried from comments about using the tool. It is not easy. You should just barely feed the lace into the tip. You will not be able to pull it through the glove if you loop the lace around the tip. This does make it hard to pull the lace through. The lace easily falls out of the tool since you can barely put it in the loop at the top., It usually took me two or three tries to get it through each hole in the thick part of the glove. But still, I was very happy that with a little patience and only $4 I was able to restore my glove.
