I'm a little bit conflicted about this "upgrade". Yes it looks nice and is more stylized than your average axle nut. The color is nice and it fits great. It also works with the same 17mm socket as the stock Surron axle nut. All of that is good, but this nut is made from aluminum. The stock nut is made from steel. Although aluminum can be better than steel for certain applications, I'm not really convinced that its a good material for the Surron axle nut. Firstly, it is very easy to cross thread this nut on the axle. I almost cross threaded it myself. If you don't get the threads lined up, the steel axle threads will easily gouge out the aluminum nut threads and you'll destroy the nut. If you install it properly, you shouldn't have to worry about this, but the stock steel axle nut will be a lot more resistant to cross threading than this aftermarket aluminum nut.Another risk of using this aluminum nut is corrosion between steel and aluminum called Galling. Galling happens when you have steel parts contacting aluminum ones. These metals will slowly corrode together over time and lock up. This is a huge problem with threads since it can cause the threads to fuse together, then when you finally get them apart, the aluminum threads can be damaged or entirely removed. This type of corrosion can be prevented by putting a little bit of anti-seize on the threads but this isn't ideal for the rear axle since I like to use a little bit of locktite and you can't do both.Overall, this Surron rear axle nut delivers what they promise. The color, fitment, and quality of the nut is good. It definitely looks nice and matches the other colored aluminum parts I have. The main issue is that the nut is made from aluminum which has worse properties than the stock steel nut. If you are only worried about performance and longevity of your surron parts, I would suggest staying away from this axle nut because the aluminum construction makes it less robust than the stock axle nut. If you mainly care about looks, then this isn't a bad option. If you're considering buying this, I'll assume you've done your homework on your choice of materials and have decided that an aluminum rear axle nut is acceptable for you. Just think carefully if you really need this or not because the stock axle nut is completely sufficient. I would have rated 5 stars if this was made from steel and painted orange.
