I put in an aftermarket head unit into my 2015 Ram 2500, and with that you lose the factory camera that is mounted in the tailgate handle. I was able to add a camera that just mounts to the license plate, but the angle makes it harder to guage depth and hooking up to a trailer, the way that the factory unit does. This unit solves that problem, because it allows you to connect an aftermarket camera and get the same angle and depth perception as the factory. On mine, I had to tap into the reverse light and connect that to the small red wire protuding from the camera end (this took some doing, as you have to remove the rear tail light housing, tap into that wire, and then route the wire - but I had already done that anyway. Otherwise, you just plug it into your aftermarket head unit and you also need to tap into a wire in there, too (the other wire on hte connection side). Mine gets a little bit of a grainy image, but I don't know that this is the fault of the unit vs my wiring work. Overall I think it's good, but the handle is plastic and you have to consider that it may not be as well made or sturdy as your factory tailgate handle).
