My old remote just decided to die on me so I ordered this on a whim and there was no programming involved. I just put batteries in pointed it at the fireplace and it worked! Now I can turn the heater on and off from bed.!

Got the remote, opened it up, slapped brand new batteries in there and hit the power button. It turned the unit off and back on then it stopped working completely. I tried all the steps to make it work, it does nothing.
