I’ve purchased many, never used a complete kit. All the double lip seals are too tight but useful under certain situations.

Should have read the reviews before buying BUT I think these double-lipped seals will work out - my lower seal was shredded. Gave four stars only for lack of information on the design difference between old and new / single lip vs double lip seals. I had similar misgivings as "Andy in WI" - wasn't sure these were an ok replacement for the single lip, steel encased OEM version that most places sell and wasn't sure of insertion direction (did same as him). I also read up on the typical versions of Loctite (recommended in manual for steel encased seal retention) and they are NOT recommended for plastic parts - will degrade the plastic and cause failure (not sure about rubber but likely same problem?). I tried calling the seller of these seals but didn't get a reply back so I installed as-is/no Loctite after cleaning the hole - don't think there is much force trying to work these seals out of the hole and down the shaft. Will take care with shaft insertion so as to not knock out the springs. I am debating deleting the O-ring on the shaft after noting that Mercruiser got rid of the O-ring in newer versions and some people noted the O-ring can damage to these seals when inserting - too wide and causes the springs to pop out. Plus with double seals the O-ring seems even more redundant...

rubber siding no need for RTV. double seal great for older drives that are a bit worn, stll I prefer thees seal in newer drives also. no more trying to install 2 seals to get the proper seal. 2 seals in 1 keeps the water out and the gear oil in.

This kit contained a double lip seal (upgrade from what was there). There was a leak in my upper outdrive. I suspected I had a bad seal but it was actually porosity on my yoke (old yoke in top pic). Short version, replaced yoke, installed new seal, pressure tight!! :)
