Curved shoulder rests, the mainstream recently, are uncomfortable as far as I'm concernd. Tried other flat shoulder rests available, Still this is the only option.

I keep a box of shoulder rests that I've tried. Whatever you currently use, whatever the brand, I've probably got one just like it, too, in my box of shoulder rests. This Resonans "feels right" somehow, and so it is the brand that stays on my violins and that I use. Shoulder rests are an individual thing, of course. The Resonans is the only shoulder rest that makes my violin snuggle into the right position to play. I don't have to fight with or adjust the resting angle of my violin while playing, so it's one less potential distraction. It's simple in design, really comfy, and probably will last for many years. It's the best shoulder rest for me, and I've pretty much tried them all. It's available in three different heights, so make sure you think about that if you order one. I'm 6' tall. On my electric I use the medium height version. For my acoustic violin I use the low height. The high height feels too high to me with either violin. Also, the legs of the feet bend so that it fits to the violin. It will grip ANY Stradivarius shaped violin really well.

I purchased this shoulder rest 14 years ago when I moved up to a 4/4 violin and my teacher told me to get rid of the pad I had been using before. Using a shoulder rest does provide many potential benefits to a user--both a beginner and an intermediate player. Many professionals also use shoulder rests. I get shoulder and neck cramps which can lead to a headache when playing for long times without one. Especially one with a standard height chin rest.I have a slightly longer than normal neck and found this to put my old violin with a standard height chin rest to work perfectly for me. However, this shoulder rest is not adjustable in height. For use with my current violin, it is too tall as my current violin has a Flesch chin rest. For my new violin I am on the lookout for a new shoulder rest (and also possibly a chin rest should no shoulder rest not work).Using or not using a shoulder rest can be highly contested in the violin world. Use or don't use one, just be comfortable playing your violin. I have to say, this Resonan violin shoulder rest worked and held up well for 14 years of playing--including in orchestra throughout middle and high school along with many, many other times playing. It does take up room in your case, so it if does not fit in your case purchase and inexpensive shoulder rest case that will clip onto the handle (or other part) of your violin case and problem solved. I know a shoulder rest will not fit in my current violin case.

As other posters said, the shoulder rest did not fit - it was too wide. I couldn't believe they would sell a product that was faulty since my instructor has the same one (from another vendor) and loves it. Wish I believed them because it is probably too late for me to return it.

The rubber tubes, protecting the violin body tore within a week. Without them, the metal holders would scratch the violin finish. The material on the top tore on the edges within two weeks.I have seen shoulder rests from the last century that look newer then this one after two weeks.

It really is better than what I expected to get for $15.It's made (in the USA) of quality stamped metal. The pad is just soft enough and covered in a heavy coarse felt. The feet have black latex tubing over them to protect the violin. It will raise the violin about 1.6"You have to bend the feet inward to fit your violin, thats just how it's made and it's easy to fit.The only problem was the label on the back which covers the edges of the felt where it folds over was coming up probably due to cold but i just pressed it back down and it seems fine now.

It is too loose, and hard to get it tightened.Next time I will buy in store, to make sure it works.

I absolutely love my Resonan Shoudler Rest, and for $15 it doesn't hurt my wallet.I have very sensitive skin and the heavy velvet covering is comfortable not irritating as some others can be.The black tubing around the feet grip my violin soundly so I never have to worry about it slipping.I would have liked to know that the feet had to be bent to fit my violin because when I opened the package it came in and tried it out the first thing that came to my mind was "Oh no! It doesn't fit!" but I eventually messed around with it and found out the legs are easily bent to fit and the bending doesn't crease the steel to weaken it.I would recommend this to any person on a budget or in a jam for a new shoulder rest.I would not recommend this for anything but practicing, however, because it does look somewhat cheap, so if you're in a group or a recital that requires professionalism, spend the extra for a nicer looking one.
