Why doesn't the filter work? Here are the most likely answers.
1. The water level in the filter basket must be higher than 50%, in order to submerge the plastic pipe fitting. Otherwise, air will flow in and cause the filter to stop working. Tip: Before the first use, we recommend filling the filter basket with water.
2. The water level of the fish tank must be higher than the water inlet of the surface skimmer. Otherwise, air will flow in and cause the filter to stop working. Tip: You can adjust the tilt angle of the surface skimmer to lower the desired fish tank water level.

I was looking for a modern and well made tank for my daughter‘s Betta fish and this is perfect. It’s very thin. It’s only about the width of a regular cell phone, but it looks really good. The heater is not noisy at all, despite some reviews when the water evaporates yes the filter will get noisy, but a simple fix is to just keep some treated water And simply top up by about an inch or so and the noise from the heater goes away and it’s completely silent, I also took a placemat and cut it to size and stuck it with double-sided tape to the back of the tank that also looks really nice and it’s a good idea to hide any wires from heater or filter

My daughter loves this for her betta and companion fish. Very nice quality and it is the perfect size for her bookshelf. Easily accommodates her filter and the light is nice and bright.

Nice little tank. The glass is very nice and clear. It's narrower than I had anticipated, but that's not the fault of the manufacturer, I could have taken a ruler out! I don't like the HOB filter, so I replaced with a small in tank filter.

Beautiful 3 gallons I love the aquarium and the light and filter are good too . It's was my first aquarium and I didn't really know nothing about fish and after a while I understood that 3 gallon is way to small for any kind fish (even a betta) specially if you want to put decorations or plants so my only regret is to not buying bigger. I had to upgrade to 10 gallons about a month after so if you are reading this buy bigger you won't regret

Unfortunately unable to put this tank in a bedroom because the filter is awfully loud. The other reviews are definitely accurate.

This aquarium is an excellent design, which maximizes the viewing area with it’s unique dimensions. The filter system is easy to assemble, and is remarkably quiet. The only sound is that of a tiny waterfall. The filter is a biological sponge, which is impregnated with activated carbon. We chose the direct filtration option, bypassing the skimming feature. The LED lighting system was another pleasant surprise, with many options, and is incredibly bright. This is by far the best illuminated and most attractive aquarium system we have ever owned. Just remember to prime the filter pump by adding water to it until the bubbling stops. An absolutely incredible value for the money. Very highly recommended!

UPDATE 11/13 - The seller reached out and offered to send me the upgraded filter to replace the noisy one I got and it is truly SILENT. I couldn't be happier with the customer service and replacement filter. With the upgraded filter, this kit is perfect!11/6 - The tank looks really nice and the light is nice but the filter is horrendous. If it were constantly loud, it wouldn't be that bad but no, it's quiet sometimes but then it randomly makes a really loud sucking noise for awhile. I have no idea why it's acting like that but I can't make it stop. Little disappointed because the rest of the kit is great. Fyi the controller for the light blinks constantly so if it's in the same room that you sleep in, that can be annoying. But overall it's a pretty nice kit for the price. Just wish the filter was normal so I could actually use it and put fish in this tank.

No double it is a beautiful tank, but in my option it is too small for everyday tank. I would only set this as a hospital tank. My filter wouldn't start so I have to make a return, but overall I feel like I wouldn't use that filter. Looks pretty cheap. I thought about getting another filter, but the tank is kind of small for the filter I had in mind. So I end up returning the tank
