*Can test double-twisted cables: Simply turn on the power (ON for normal mode and S for slow speed mode), insert the cables into the main tester and remote test, and the indicator lights on the main tester will light up sequentially from 1 to G.
Main Tester: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-G
Remote Tester: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-G (RJ45)
1-2-3-4-5-6 -------- (RJ12)

Abnormal Connections:
*If a cable, such as cable No. 3, is open-circuited, the No. 3 lights on both the main tester and remote tester will not light up.
*If multiple cables are not connected, multiple indicator lights will not light up accordingly. If less than two cables are connected, none of the lights will be on.
*If two cables are short-circuited, neither of the corresponding lights on the remote tester will be on, while the main tester remains unchanged. If three cables, including No. 3, are short-circuited, none of the corresponding lights will be on.

This is a very standard cable tester designed to check if RJ45 ends have been crimped successfully onto CAT5/CAT6 cable. This basic design has been around for years and I've owned several of these at various past jobs: it consists of two pieces, one sending device and one return device, that together check the continuity of the cable when plugging them into each end. There are two things I use this for: checking that a cable is created correctly/crimped firmly, and testing to see which cable is which when you've pulled a big bundle of cable through the wall. It's pretty powerful to be able to plug one end into a remote cable, then go back to the rack and plug the other end into various cables until you find the correct matching one, so I like the split setup with two pieces that dock and undock from each other.I actually like that each pin of the cable lights up in sequence, because it can help me troubleshoot which portion of the crimp or punchdown may be defective. It also helps highlight if there are any wires shorted together or wired as a crossover cable. My only real complaint is that no 9V battery is included. 9V batteries are kind of rare these days, so you'll need to go on a treasure hunt for one when the product arrives. I would have much preferred if one was included, even if the product cost an extra dollar to compensate... but that's just my preference. (Actually, I'd prefer if it used more standard batteries like 2xAA or 2xAAA, but that's probably asking too much from a product that's based on a reference design that hasn't changed in years.)This works fine and is a useful tool to have in the toolbox, and at this price point, it's a great value.

Basic tester for cat5 type cable and just what was needed to be sure the punched down wires were all there. It will not actually tell you how well the cable will pass data. If you need that, you're better off with Fluke test equipment.

This simple Network works, but, its got a few issues. The good is that it is at an affordable price point, simple to use and store. The not so good is that the light are way too bright and they bleed into the above and below indicators. The other issue is that the normal test setting is relatively fast and the slow setting is even faster. All in all it does work, but you must be "eagle eyed" or you'll miss the readout light sequence.
