About this item

  • SIZE: 3cm / 1.18inch Diameter
  • HOW TO USE: Place a wick into the cork float. Fill the glass half full with water, half full with oil and lit the wick. Please research more if this is your first time experience with vigil oil lamps!
  • Traditionally in Orthodoxy the vigil lamps are placed before an icon as a reminder that Jesus Christ is the light of the world and illumines our souls.
  • SAFETY TIPS: Never leave burning vigil lamps unattended. Refill the oil in your vigil lamp when one-quarter to one-third of the oil is used up. This will prevent the glass from overheating and causing unpleasant odors. Keep flammable items away from the lamps, especially above it. Candles placed on, or near tables, altars, or shrines, must be watched by an adult.

Set our hearts on fire with love for you, O Christ our God,

So that in its flame we may love you with all our heart,

I've bought from Blessed Mart from Etsy. And very happy to see them on Amazon now. The cork floats do what they are supposed to do. Some customers were complaining that the hole for the wick is too big. Folks, there are two metal tongs through the hole, simply pinch them to your desire dimension.

I use these as a demonstration for a historical oil lamp class that I am teaching. While they are fairly cheaply made, I did not expect anything more. They do the job and they work well.

I resell these and they are very popular. Cotton string or those those short paraffin covered wicks can be used. To utilize cotton or string, go ahead and use either thin wire or dental floss to pull it through the hole, then press together the little metal pice underneath to secure the string. Make sure not more than an 8th of an inch is poking through the top, to keep theflame manageable. Use tweezers to adjust and keep pulling through after each lighting. Use any vegetable or olive oil for the cork to float on (no water). Bend the metal side piece up for easy handling. To snuff out the flame, dunk the cork into the oil instead of blowing out the flame. That way, you can easily light it again. Hope this helps.
