While this mute softens the sound of your trumpet, it changes the pitch of your horn (drops a whole step), and not in a consistent way across the scale (goes down a half step across the octave). I found it to make my trumpet unplayable. It's a tiny thing, and I think it goes too far up the throat of the bell.With some effort you might be able to lip up the notes and stay on a pitch - so maybe this could be used for ear/lip training of some sort, but definitely not useful when playing with other people or practicing songs. I do not recommend this.

Simple and cheaply made but it is effective and that's all that matters - mutes the sound of a preteen learner !
