Created by Dierdra to meet the needs of hand appliquers. It is a hybrid of three types of needles. This British made needle is thin with an evenly tapered point; it is stronger and a little longer than the traditional Sharps and also sports a significantly larger eye for easier threading. There is no size attached to this needle as it is unique unto itself and does not follow the traditional rules. Each tube contains 50 needles.

Large eye is too small for DMC floss. Great needles but need larger eyes.

I have used Roxanne needles for hand quilting for years without problem. Those have been sturdy and easy to work with, so when I decided to try hand appliqué I picked up Roxanne needles without giving it much thought. I don't know if I got a bad batch or if there has been some change in manufacturing process and/or location, but...the eye on these is a thread destroyer. If you can get them threaded that is. I have bent several trying to thread them using my super duper presto bingo press the lever and lift out a fully threaded needle needle threader. A couple I gave up on entirely and threw away. I even picked up some old school needle threaders to help and wound up breaking a couple of needles in the process of trying to get them threaded. If you can get the needle threaded, the 50 wt thread hangs in the eye as you are working. The only thing that threads easily and doesn't snag is 100 wt silk. Otherwise, the needles are fine--they have a nice point that slides through most fabrics easily. However, wasting thread trying to get to the sewing part together with the frustration of a 10 minute break to thread a needle means these just are not worth it.

I have used these needles before for quilt projects. I like the large eye. They are great for applique go quilts.

I love the way these needles thread so easily and smoothly! They just glide through fabric too!

I'm appliqueing my second Hawaiian quilt using the Roxanne needles and Aurifil thread. I find that the needles should be a little longer but otherwise they make the applique stitches much easier and faster.

Great pins! Eye is large enough for easy threading and shaft is fine enough for easy hand sewing.

These needles are not as nice as they were years ago, the point is very sharp but the shaft is not as highly polished as I'd like - so it feels like there is a drag on the needle as it passes through the fabric. Still very usable and a pretty good bargain for how many needles you get!

Working applique with these needles is like passing through butter. They stay sharp a long, long time. I bought these a month ago and used them the day of delivery not one is bent or broken. I will not use any other needle.
