The adapter arrived a day early which I was super excited about but unfortunately it does not work. I attempted to use the adapter with a Cat5e cable to connect to the console ports of my routers and switches in my home lab but I received no connection using PuTTY. I tried multiple Ethernet cables that I know work in case it was a wire issue and also tested the connection with my Cisco console cable (which worked). I was really looking forward to this adapter as this would allow me to access the console port on all my devices without having switch the console cable every time (just switch the cable plugged into the adapter), very disappointing.

Here is Adapter's pin-to-pin connection listing in DB9 - RJ45 order (first number is DB9 and 2nd one is RJ45): 1-8, 2-2, 3-1, 4-7, 5-6, 6-5, 7-3, 8-4.Update: I am upgrading my rating to 5 stars and correcting my original review. To clarify, this adapter will work with any 8-pin RJ-45 connector configuration as long as it or it’s female counterpart is used on both ends. I tried to use this adapter on a Cat 5 cable that had a different pin-out DB-9 to RJ-45 adapter on the other end. My bad.

I purchased this to use for realtime reporting with my steno machine. It works with my Stenograph perfectly. If you’re looking for an adapter to use with your machine and Ethernet cable, without spending a crazy sum of money, then this is your adapter.

This items can't provide TCP/IP interface (its just a straight through connector). To use these as described requires software driver on an attached computer to provider the software drivers for this device. Feeling mis-led by the marketing.Only use of these are to change the physical cable type used to link two devices, it will not connect across a Ethernet LAN or provide a serial port on an Ethernet LAN.

1. "Compatible with most routers on the market, such as Cisco and TPlink etc" It is not. Incorrect pinout.2. Tested for continuity with multimeter, Pinout does not match picture. Actual pinout is (DB9 Female - RJ45 Female) 1-8, 2--2, 3-1, 4-7, 5-6, 6-5, 7-3, 8-4, 9-x.
