Salifert Oxygen Profit-Test Corals and marine fish require very high levels of oxygen concentration because of the low solubility of oxygen in salt water so it is very important to regularly test the level of oxygen present. The Salifert Oxygen Profit-Test is extremely fast, measuring oxygen levels in just a few minutes and is scaled from 2 - 14 mg/L. Sufficient for 40 tests. Can be used for marine, fresh and garden pond water Warning! Reagent O2-1 is irritating and contains a base. In case of contact with the skin wash with plenty of water. In case of contact with the eyes wash with plenty of water and consult a physician immediately. If swallowed contact a physician immediately. Keep out of reach of children. Not for consumption. Instructions: Add to the test cial 5ml of water. Add 5 drops of O2-1 and swirl gently for 20 seconds. Do not shake since this could change the oxygen content of the water too much. Add 6 drops of O2-2 and swirl gently for 15 seconds. Allow to stand for marine water 5 minutes and other types of water for 1 minute. Add 6 drops of O2-3 and swirl for 20 seconds. Allow 30 seconds for color development. Place the test vial on a white part of the color scheme and compare the colors by looking from above. An immediate color corresponds to an intermediate oxygen content. The values on the color chart are in mg/l (ppm) oxygen. Try to maintain in fresh water (aquarium of garden pond) an oxygen content of 8mg/l or higher. In marine water an oxygen concentration of at least 7mg/l is advisable. Some fish need higher oxygen concentrations.

Since the clear plastic test vial used for comparing the treated sample with the color chart was unusable due to it being broken, theres no way to know!

I really can't say how accurate this is, since I have no other way of testing the oxygen level in the water. It only took a few minutes to complete the test and the instructions were clear.

Too many steps and the test strip gave off color that matched different readings.Didn't know what was correct.

I used this to test the oxygen in an aquarium that had an unexpected fish death. I thought the oxygen was probably OK based on the filtration I was using, and this test confirmed that it was fine. It was only a little more complicated than other liquid aquarium test kits, so if you've done the nitrate test with the multiple chemicals where you have to shake the bottles and wait 1 minute here and 5 minutes there, this should be easy for you. It was a LOT easier to read than other kits I've used for water testing, probably because this one comes with a little cup instead of the skinny tube that comes in most kits. I was skeptical based on some of the reviews, but after using it I have nothing negative to say and I would definitely recommend it.

Takes longer than your normal tests. But works well

Tested several aquariums....have similar readings. 8 PPM which is fine for freshwater...however i got suspicious as it always gave same results. Decided to test this on a bottle of water that was sitting in a spray bottle for a year. Guess what...still showed 8 PPM / pink color giving false sense that there is adequate dissolved oxygen. Makes no sense. I am wondering if the process of using the included feeder tube is the issue as it forcefully squirts out the water and since it stirs the water....it introduces O2 into the stale water. Just a theory. Will try without using the squirter.

easy to use and has worked every time except the first time I tried to use it, the water stayed clear, so I think I did something wrong. Is giving me pretty consistent readings on 3 different tanks for a week, so I'm happy with this purchase. Even though I thought the price was too high, it's worth it to know, especially since I did end up needing to add more oxygen to one of my tanks.

The dissolved oxygen test kit for water is an inexpensive yet accurate alternative to much more expensive meters. The testing process involves a measured number of drops from 3 different bottles, then a comparison to a color chart. The process can get tedious and can take up to 10 minutes for each test. Otherwise the process is simple and easy.
