As an important component of modern clutch systems, the release system, the connection between pedal and clutch, has a decisive influence on the driving experience. To ensure that the clutch is easy to operate and that the power flow can be safely metered, all components of the release system must work perfectly together. Today's vehicles are usually equipped with a hydraulic clutch actuation. Schaeffler has significantly advanced the development of hydraulic clutch actuation technology! When the driver pushes the clutch pedal down, the master cylinder converts pedal force into pressure. Besides this basic task, a modern clutch master cylinder contributes to a host of other vehicle attributes. It plays a role in supporting improved safety, comfort and throttle response. Also it allows functionalities such as cruise control, starter-interlock system, the electric parking brake, torque adjustment and even the start-stop system. Under its LuK brand, Schaeffler has played a decisive role in the development of hydraulic clutch actuation technology. Today, the company also offers all components of the release system as spare parts for the independent market in case of a defect, certainly in the usual OE quality. These clutch replacement parts can be used for various models of Car, Truck, SUV & Van, Motorcycles & Scooters as well as ATVs & UTVs. Please check for the correct build, year, and model before buying.

Don't waste your money on the box store parts unless they carry this brand I installed 3 different ones and they would not bleed out this one did I've driven around with it for a month no problem....

The picture on Amazon shows the part is aluminum but what I was sent is cast iron ?

Seems like decent quality, but of course we'll see over the years. The XJ seems to eat clutch master cylinders and about every 5-8 years they need replacing, even using the correct and quality brake/clutch fluid. Took a bit of work to bleed the master, but once done the clutch again releases smoothly.

I used this in my 1988 Jeep Comanche, but it should also fit your Cherokee as well given they're basically the same body. This thing was actually better than stock I'd say. Unlike the photo, this LuK master cylinder has a cast iron body to it! I definitely didn't expect this, but was pleasantly surprised. It may be heavier, but it's also more rigid as a result. It didn't come with a new firewall gasket, so I had to use some RTV to make one to seal it to the firewall - just keeping moisture out of the cab, no big deal.P.S. If you're having clutch issues, check and make sure your clutch pedal isn't bent, mine was and that fixed my clutch not releasing problem. Good luck!
