I bought this as a security upgrade for my front door, because I was never quite comfortable with not being able to see who was on the other side without opening it. You really can't go wrong with this for the price; it's Taiwanese made, but it's a solid brass, UL-listed door viewer with GLASS optics from a trusted name. Herein lies the key, though: If you're shopping around for door viewers and want to be absolutely sure you're getting one with glass lenses, make sure the product includes the words "UL-listed" and/or "fire rated" in the description. The door viewer itself sports a nicely polished finish on both visible surfaces and mounts to your door under tension by screwing the two halves together. Installation is a relatively easy project that will require patience and a 9/16" spade bit, or drill appropriate to the type of door you're mounting this on. In my case, my front door is fiberglass with a foam/wood core, so a spade bit worked perfectly for the job. Find the height that works best for all the members of your household, and carefully mark the drill points on BOTH sides of your door. (Or: Measure twice, drill once!) Go slow, let the bit do the work, and once you have a nice and neat 9/16" hole, repeat the process on the other side. Clean any remaining schmutz out of the hole, place a small bead of silicone on the inside lip of the outer piece, and carefully screw both halves together until they're snug. You can also add a little Blue Loc-Tite to the threads, if desired. Finagle as needed, THEN tighten with a coin until secure.I have a small front porch, but the viewer leaves almost nothing out of view. I can even see the awning above or check to see if packages are at the doorstep just by moving my head a little. While the view is admittedly quite fish eyed, I can still make out parked cars and pedestrians clearly with my prescription glasses, even at night. I'm also pleased that my front porch light doesn't degrade the image quality in the slightest. As I said, twenty bucks buys you a helluva lot of peace of mind, and I'm confident this will provide a lifetime of use.
