For a budget-friendly choice that's ideal for high school competition, this 12-lb. Competition Shot Put is a winner. Shot Selection Criteria: What to know before you order. Determining the correct diameter is based on the fingers being in proper throwing position. In order to obtain proper fitting of the shot to your athlete: 1. Analyze finger length--it's critical. Shot must rest on the pad (callus) of the palm, and fingers must be placed up the side of the shot. Throwers with "shorter" fingers may prefer the smaller diameter shot and believe it feels better at delivery. Athletes with longer fingers may feel more comfortable with the larger diameter. 2. The final decision is the thrower's personal choice. Coaches may need to provide 2-3 diameters (sizes) to provide the best fit for the whole team. Biomechanically speaking, the larger shots have a greater contact area and push zone. Regulation shot is to meet specifications and weigh-in.

I asked my son what he wanted for Christmas and got no reply so I looked for something completely useless but difficult to just throw away. It dawned on me that an old fashioned cannonball met those requirements. This is just a cannonball that’s been repurposed into a so called shot-put.It’s ideal for my purposes to remind my children that if they don’t give me some ideas of what they want for Christmas and birthdays, they’re going to get a cannonball. And in my opinion, they can never have too many of them!

I have never thrown a shot put and know absolutely nothing about the sport. I purchased two of these to use as big, heavy dexterity balls to increase my grip strength. This was an idea that I got from the book the Neuro Grip Challenge. It is great and challenging exercise that thoroughly taxes your fingers, wrists and forearms. These things are inexpensive and ideal for this exercise. Thanks for a solid product.

Just as described by the seller and customer reviews. What can I say, it's a silver led ball; looks great out of the box and my daughter has really enjoyed using it for track & field practice. In the two months we've had this shot put, she has improved her throwing distance 5 feet(this is in no way a reflection of this product) but using it at home has really helped my daughter get better at throwing in competitions.
