SeaStar Solutions SS141xx Back Mount Rack Steering System
Traditional SeaStar Solutions (formerly Teleflex Marine) mechanical rack steering is still the choice for sterndrives, inboards and other power-assisted applications. It's just right for power-steered boats in which No-Feedback Systems are not Required.
The Back Mount Rack Steering System features the precision and comfort of four turns lock-to-lock with a cable and helm that install easily from behind the dash. In single cable configurations, this is the best 4-turn choice for power-steered boats.
Suitable For:
- Virtually all Power-Assisted Sterndrive and Inboard Boats with Wheels up to 16-inch Diameter.
- SS141xx Replaces 1984 and Newer SeaStar Solutions 'The Rack' Steering without dash modification (Requires use of SSC134xx Back Mount Rack Cable Enclosed).
Kit Contains the Following:
(1) SH5210P Helm; (1) SB39526P 90 Degree Bezel Kit; (1) SSC134xx Steering Cable; Hardware and Instruction Sheets.
Note: This System is for Single Station use ONLY. Components are available for Dual Cable Systems, but we Recommend No Feedback (NFB) Steering for all Dual Cable Steered, Non-Power Assisted Outboards. This System is only recommended as a replacement for the original system as installed by the boat manufacturer. SeaStar Solutions always recommends NFB Helms for Outboard Applications.
Note: SSC124xx Old Style Rack Cables cannot be used with these systems.
Wedge Kit Option: If you wish to have your Steering Wheel and Helm on a 20 Degree Angle to the Face of your Dash, Order Kit SB27449P Separately.

I own a 1993 Bayliner Trophy that had the original steering rack mount steering system in it. This was a perfect fit!

Great steering kit for my 1997 Nitro 700LX. Got the 12ft cable length and it fit perfect. For anyone doing this on a similar boat I highly recommend this kit. Although, on mine, I still had to lift the outboard off the transom to change it out at the tilt tube. Best way to go really instead of cutting the fiberglass like on some videos. All in all... an hour and a half job... at most. Good luck!

I read some previous reviews saying same parts/pieces didn't come. YEA! COMES WITH ALL PARTS SHOWN IN PICTURES. I did all the part installations on my Thundercraft 1990 (small tweaks, but no big deal) works perfectly

Had to re order. first one came defective from factory. quality control is lacking as no damage to the box but cable was very damaged. for the price I felt a need to send it back and get it replaced . Amazon was great to deal with a replacement. I have no complaints there . They just don't make things like they used to. My old system lasted well over 30 years . i will not hold my breath that this new unit will last nearly that long!

Replaced a 1992 vintage jet boat steering system that had become quite rough. This package is complete and generally well made, but would note that different hub installation design from original - which took some ingenuity and effort to 'adapt' my fancy anodized aluminum hub. Would also suggest to manufacturer that drilling template should mention it must be inverted for applications where steering is on left (port) side!

This replaced the 40 year old original steering system in a 20 ft center console inboard Shamrock. Had to move the helm position slightly but it installed fairly easily in a VERY tight space. Directions and template were good but template could be better. Now it feels like the power steering on a friend's 1965 Cadillac. Two months of use and all seems fine so far. When it arrived, one end of the cable had punched through the top of the box and was sticking out about 4 inches. Luckily that caused no problems.

Worked perfectly and a very simple installation for anyone with mechanical skills. My old cable showed 15ft 6in stamped on the case. I was tempted to buy the 15 ft. After reading the measurement instructions I ordered a 16 ft cable. Worked perfectly although 6” longer than my original cable. The only bummer was my existing steering wheel will not work. I had to order a new steering wheel.

Exactly what I needed. Steering went fron hard to steer with 2 hands to easy with 1 hand. Fairly easy to install.
