Red film was very tough to get off and it started to unstick from the boat after 1 day. Surface was prepped correctly. Protects the keel though I guess

Don’t buy, it’s impossible to get the red plastic off of the adhesive. Waste of money

I got this for my powerboat. The forward portion of the keel has kissed rocks and beaches over the years and had a few dings. I got this guard to protect it. I cleaned the area well with xylene – could have used any other cleaning solvent, including rubbing alcohol. Once ready, I peeled off the first foot or 2 of the keel strip’s backing, exposing the adhesive layer, and placed it where I want it, then peeled some more and kept going until the full length was stuck down. Then I went over it again, tapping it firmly down with a rubber mallet, then ran a rubber roller over that. I gave it several days to really harden up and cure before I put the boat in the water. So far it’s stuck firmly, a good thing in water, with all the stress and abuse a keel guard must take.

I regularly use a concrete boat ramp that has no dock so I have to ground the bow in the ramp. My keel was taking a beating but those days are over. It took some time to do the proper prep but I wanted to do it right so the guard would last. I am very happy with this keel guard. The adhesive seems super strong so I expect a long life. The keel guard doesn't show any wear yet after multiple grounding on the ramp since I installed it. (Note: Need to buy extra tools to clean the bottom of the boat, good price compared to other products)

One of my favorite fishing spots has a ramp without dock so I have to pull my boat up on the ramp. Over time I've really abused the keel and had to fix it. I was leery of a keel guard. I was afraid messing up the install, and once its on, there is no moving it. I was also concerned about it staying on. Glad I was wrong on both accounts. If you follow the instructions / video just exactly as it says, it will work. I was surprised, it was really not a bad job. The best part is...it works. I've hit the ramp now several times and been in the water long enough to see that it's not coming off and that the ramp is not going to tear this thing up. If you have a favorite spot where you have to use the ramp...this is the answer.
