Specs say it is stainless steel, which is good, as the one I removed off my Trek bike was not and was rusting pretty badly from lack of lube. Instructions said not to lube the chain after install. It appeared to have a fairly nice oil coating on it. New chain was 2 links to long so I removed them and after watching a couple videos on YouTube, was able to get the new one installed properly. I would recommend.

Fits perfect on my 8 gear rear, 3 gear front, with Shimano components (old Pacific Ambush MTB). Had to remove a 5 links to match the existing chain. Runs smooth. Get a chain link removal tool if you don't have one.

Cleaned Chain with Simple Green and brush and then applied dry lube. Runs great and looks Shinny. Easy to install as long as you match the links to your Bike Chain requirements during installation. I did put a Master link on this chain not easy but doable.

Shimano CN-HG71 116 link chain arrived in Shimano retail packaging. There is no "Master Link", "Missing Link" or "Quick Link" provided. This is old school, it includes one chain joining pin. With your chain tool, you cut the chain to the correct length, then using the same tool, insert the joining pin, then break off the tail of the pin. If a unfamiliar with this joining process, you should evaluate using a "Quick Link 8/7/6 speed" for easier installation.

I’ve been riding for well over 50 years, never once broke a chain. My young son and his buddies broke three mountain bike chains in as many weeks. Local bike shops chain lasted two rides (I’m betting they shift gears while applying power). Side bars on the chain links were the weak spot. This chain has solid side straps, much stronger than open style chains.Adjusting the length is a straightforward job with a rivet press tool. Got good at that unfortunately. The supplied master link worked perfectly. It’s been several month with those savages riding the bikes, no more broken chains.
