I live in an old house that had very little exterior lighting originally on the house, garage, or barn. These make adding a light fairly easy just about anywhere over vinyl siding that I want too. I probably had added 4 this summer using LED fixtures with motion sensors. Just adding exterior rated mount boxes over siding doesn't fit well and depending on where may not sit level / plumb. These allow a better mounting place for adding lighting.

I needed a means to mount an external porch light to vinyl siding. This block fit the bill perfectly. I was able to mount it securely to the house, and then securely mount the new light fixture to the box. I painted it to match the color of the siding. It is strong, firm, well made and a great block for mounting to vinyl siding.
