I was rather hesitant at first about this lens. I have a couple of zoom lens that cover this focal length and with faster apertures than this lens. But what tempted me to this lens was its compact size and light weight together with a 1:2 macro range. And from pictures I see from the internet, it’s smooth bokeh or out-of-focus fore- and backgrounds. The lens was scheduled for delivery 4-5 days after order, but the seller promptly shipped out the lens on the same day of order. The delivery was done the following day, 1 day after order, and way ahead of schedule. The lens look great on my A7CR and its size complimented the camera’s compact design. A set that I can carry around with me in a small bag together with a small water bottle, and some odd and bits. And I have my camera with me wherever I go, and am ready for anything that catches my eyes or is worth photographing. My first test shot of the glasses at F3.5 shows excellent sharpness at the point of focus with both the foreground and background melting away into a smooth and pleasant blurry image. Enough to make out the remaining parts of the glasses but not clear enough to distract from the main point of focus.Shooting at F8 in the close-up range reveals excellent sharpness and fine detailing, with rich natural colours. This is a great lens for food photography. This 24mm wide angle shows its prowess for architectural photography, with hardly any flares in bright sunlight. The architectural photographs were taken without a lens hood with strong sunlight in the foreground but not into the lens. Fine detailing, rich natural colours with minimal distortion.I use the digital zoom function in my camera to ‘vary’ the focal length up to 2x with the 60mp setting and up to 3x with the 23mp setting. So effectively getting a 24-72mm lens if the need arise, but I am happily using this lens at its 24mm focal length.Since receiving this lens about a week ago, I carry it with me everywhere I go, capturing whatever I fancied. My amateurish food photography has improved greatly and I am most happy to highly recommend this lens to anyone who may be contemplating but hesitating. Go ahead and buy it.

Superb build quality and a complete joy to use. Even the lens hood is high quality.Very sharp, even at F3.5. Great "semi" macro lens as well with super close up capability. Only issue when shooting at minimum focus distance is some softness. The lens needs to be stopped down to F5.6 for maximum sharpness up close.Distortion is very minimal which is a bonus for such a wide lens! I do wish it had a brighter aperture, but that would have sacrificed the small size.

This is my 2nd 24mm lens as I also own a 24mm, Sony, f1.4, GM. Going in I was fine with the f3.5 aperture not being the fastest out there as I knew it would work for how I shoot, (day time landscape and city street, and also indoor group shots when I'm stopping down to get all faces in focus any way). I am really happy with this lens. The tiny size and weight, clicky aperture ring, and manual focus ring make the shooting experience so nice. Very good close focusing distance allows you to get right on top of your subject. It is wonderfully sharp and renders colors beautifully! Very manageable pin cushion distortion that goes away completely with in-camera corrections turned on without stretching the images, returning true results. I also love the metallic lens cap option, (cool). My only gripe is the very heavy vignetting, which makes the corners pretty dark. This is does not go away with the in-camera lens corrections. I was one who previously didn't care about this but it is especially pronounced with this lens, but at the great price I got for this thing,~$300 gently used I'll put up with it. This is a great lens. My 24mm, f1.4, G master still has its place, but this lens is a great 2nd 24mm for my portable Everyday carry camera!

I have been looking for a suitable lens for my Panasonic S9. This Sigma 24mm lens seems to be the perfect solution, with excellent optics and an aperture of F3.5, just a little slower than F2.8. Of course it can't zoom, but this is not a big problem for experienced photographers. In addition, the lens was shipped quickly and the packaging was good, so overall I am very satisfied.

One reviewer wrote that the sharpness of this lens was average. I’m so glad I didn’t listen to that review. He must have had a bad copy. At least on my 42mp camera, it’s very sharp. It’s a small, solid piece of steel. So fun to shoot with. It can definitely produce professional prints. The F stop doesn’t bother me. I’m mostly going to use it for landscapes. I wanted a trio of lenses that were small and uniformed for travel that didn’t draw attention to myself. I have faster lenses when I need them. I travel with Sigma lenses, the 24mm, 65mm and 90mm. You won’t regret buying this lens.

Photos are near the quality produced by Leica's own lenses, but the Sigma Contemporary lenses cost only about 10% of the price of a Leica lens. So, great job, Sigma!

I'm a photographer with 40 years experience. I bought this lens for my Sony A7S so I could use the camera more like a rangefinder camera; small wide fixed angle lens with not much heft or bulk. The lens is small but not really a pancake lens. It has a bit of heft to it because it's all metal, however the lens is so small that there isn't much of a weight penalty for it to be all metal. The lens looks and handles like the good old metal lenses that were made back in the 1970's. Reassuring quality. Not the bold quality of a high priced lens like a Voigtlander Nokton that feels like it will last a hundred years (I own that lens), but rather the quality of a well made metal lens from the 70's or 80's.The aperture ring has a nice feel to it. The focus ring is not all that wide, and sits precariously close to the lens hood should you choose to use the provided lens hood. Not a deal breaker by any means, but it does separate this lens from the $1,000 plus classics like the Nokton. Everything is a little close together on this lens because the lens is compact. The focus ring is nice and does the job well, obviously not damped like a $1,000 lens but not a cheap rattler, just nice and smooth with some feel to it.The AF/Manual Focus switch on the side of the lens is okay. it isn't flimsy, but isn't going to last 100 years either. In terms of autofocus, this lens focuses reasonably quickly, however you will notice the last little bit of screw adjustments to get the focus locked in. It doesn't have the sizzling fast focus of hypersonic focus however this isn't a deal breaker. I've since learned to use the lens with center or spot focus and the focusing is quick enough I don't notice it.In terms of image quality, reviewers tend to really hype this lens. Quite honestly, the sharpness of this lens is average. The sharpness edge to edge is average. I owned a Canon 40mm pancake lens that could run rings around this lens in terms of sharpness, and sharpness edge to edge. I personally don't think this lens outperforms some cell phone lenses. So consequently, this lens is a jack of all trades and a master of none. There is nothing about this lens that punches far above its weight in terms of build quality, usability or image quality, but nothing is a real letdown either. Will I keep this lens? Yes. I plan to use it for family and event photography. I will run it on manual settings. It's nice to be able to quickly adjust the aperture from the lens. I will probably use the manual focus most of the time. The 24mm is a very useful focal length. The length and heft of the lens, although not a pancake lens, is fairly compact. The image quality will be acceptable for my needs, however won't wow anyone either. Most people who consume my photos just want to see well exposed photos of their family, friends, events which this lens can provide.Follow up review, after putting a couple hundred photos and an hour of video through the lens:Yes, the photo quality (and video quality) are quite acceptable, but not shockingly good. However the lens hasn't left the camera body since I put it on, and as I own about five other lenses, that tells you something. I've been cranking out some pretty good family photos with this lens, and some pretty good video as well. I pretty much leave the lens on the Auto aperture setting, autofocus, auto everything for both photos and video (must be getting lazy in my old age). But yes, for the price, you may find this lens never leaves the camera body. For some reason, it stuck with me and now it stays as my primary lens, even knocking off the 40mm Nokton from it's pedestal because of the extremely useful 24mm focal length.

This lens is very sharp up to the edges. Slight barrel distortion and vignetting, which is perfectly normal for this focal length and easily corrected. The autofocus is silent and super quick. You can get very close to the object, closer than with other lenses with this focal length. The design is beautiful and the built quality is very good. It’s light weight and small, which in my opinion makes a lot more sense than the heavy bulky ones these days.I kept it. I like Sigma overall and I’m always impressed what you get for the money.

One of the best camera lenses I have EVER used. Excellent edge-to-edge sharpness on full frame, with almost no field curvature. Even better on APS-C. Optically flawless at f/4. You cannot go wrong with this lens. AF is quick and accurate. Build quality is outstanding, especially the beautiful metal hood. Distortion is almost zero (and that’s native distortion, not software-corrected). Clearly there are people at Sigma who fondly remember the classic Pentax 24mm f3.5. As much as I like that lens, I like this one more. Buy it.

This is a very sharp and compact full-frame lens which works great on my A7ii.Before buying it I compared this lens to the Tamron 24mm f2.8, Samyang, the recent Sony 24mm G-series and could not be happier with it.Firstly it feels very solid and it's made of metal. Ergonomically speaking it allows to control aperture with a dedicated ring and to switch auto/manual focus with a button on the lens, which is very intuitive in the field to work with.Autofocus works great too, it is very precise and definitely swifter then my other Tamron and Sony (non G-series) full-frame lenses.I enjoy using it very much and would buy it again.
