I did this job myself without a timing tool although it took me a weekend just doing it slow and making sure I did everything correct, if you search "wrong way to do vanos rebuild" the video should pop up on youtube, the method requires you to separate the hydraulic plunger from the gear without removing the gear from the assembly which will keep your timing exactly how it currently is, no need for the timing tool and complete peace of mind knowing the timing won't be thrown off even a littleJob is easier with the engine out of the car, I had to remove my expansion tank to get clearance for tools, what I wish I would have done is- I wish I ordered a new radiator, thermostat, aluminum thermostat housing, pump, new hoses and coolant all at the same time along with this kit so I could disassemble everything, rebuild the vanos with all the room in the world to move my wrenches and then do the same with the thermostat and the coolant pump on my m52 before dropping in a new radiator

Usps messed up on the delivering end, It was not the sellers fault. However, this seller was quick to rsspond and helped handle the situation wonderfully! I got the prodcut fast even after the mishap. It looks very promising and I look forward to installing it. I will update the reveiw for sure if I remember too based on the outcome. If I do not come back with an update. Assume it worked out fine.

Great product, you may need to buy the new bearing races depending on condition of yours they are the two flat washers inside the vanos servo piston
