I was a bit surprised when I unpacked these skull caps as they are a bit thicker than the helmet liners I’m used to. When I wear these skull caps under my cycling helmet, it does balance a bit high on my head. I see the material is 100% polyester, while the liners I generally wear are a polyester and spandex mix, which probably explains the difference in thickness. That said, the fleece feels quite comfortable against the skin.I took one of the skull caps out for a test run. I dressed appropriately for the day, a thin under layer beneath a long sleeved cycling jersey and the skull cap beneath my helmet. My upper body was initially a bit chilled, although I warmed up quickly enough. My head was warm from start to finish. My helmet, when I looked in the mirror, did seem to ride a bit high, but on the road it felt firmly in place. The fleece was right on the edge of being too warm for this particular day, and I think that normally chosen a somewhat thinner liner. On a colder day, however, the fleece would have been my choice. I think this fleece skull cap will be perfect for a cold winter’s day jog.

These skull caps appear to be well made and should keep you warm both underneath a helmet (skiing, snow boarding, snow mobiling) or without. I actually plan to wear them as my sole headgear this winter thinking, I am going to like the thinner layer, lower profile, headwear, as compared to a traditional more bulky stocking cap. The real test would be how well these fair once this cold air turns into winter breeze expect they may do fairly well in though that is currently TBD. Will update accordingly once I have tried then out against a little wind.
