This little axe is adorable, and a great little chopper - but be careful! Always wear eye protection. Never use it while under the influence of mind altering substances.

There's something wrong with the design of this axe head. The blade edge can be sharpened and honed so it feels sharp, but the angle of that cutting edge is way too steep for chopping or even splitting.I've tried splitting hardwood and softwood and most times the blade bounces right off.The edge needs to be honed at an angle of approx. 32º- 36º for it to be effective. That means a ton of metal needs to be removed to make the angle more acute. Then a secondary edge or micro bevel needs to be filed/ground to create a real cutting edge.As is, the hammer on the opposite side, is more useful than the bladed side. The size is just right though to add to your camping/trekking gear, or to keep on hand in the garage for kindling etc. This small axe might be a good project to work on to practice your grinding/honing skills while researching the art of axe making - if it were not for the price they're asking for it.You'd be better off looking in garage sales/on-line auctions etc.Other obsevations:-The 'leather'? sheath barely fits and is too flimsy/cheap-I'm not too confident about the method used to attach the head to the handle. There's movement already developed after only minor use.

I got this tiny hatchet for my husband who is a giant and also loves survival and all things knife and axe as a funny and sweet little yule gift. Is it the best hatchet money can buy? Perhaps not, but as a tiny and whimsical hatchet it is surprisingly sharp and useful.

This is a nice little hand axe. It arrived sharp and ready to use, which I can confirm because it cut me as it exited the package when I took it inside. It was evident that somewhere along the line, my package was dropped, possibly multiple times because the blade had cut through the protective rubber cover that was on the blade edge and also put a hole in the packaging.Someone clearly took the time to make a good portable tool. The handle isn't covered with a lacquer, so it didn't need to be stripped and oiled before use. You can feel the wood grain, though it was clearly finished and protected with something. Speaking of wood grain, the grain orientation of the handle is surprisingly good. The axe head is not overly embellished and obviously kept simple. They didn't waste time or money to turn it into an overpriced display piece, which I appreciate. The edge is convex and sharp, the way an axe head should be.The split log in the picture was about 5-inches in diameter from a tulip poplar tree. Tulip poplar is on the softer side of hardwoods, but still a hardwood. This little axe handled it just fine, but I probably wouldn't try to split anything bigger than 5 - 6-inch diameter pieces with this axe alone. I decided to see what else it could do, and it did a decent job of making shavings. I noticed the axe head developed a little play on the handle. You can see the gap in the picture. I don't think this is the case across the board. I can see from pictures and videos that others look like they've been wedged properly and are solid, but looking at mine, there is either a defect at the top of the haft where it was wedged, or something got messed up in the process, resulting in not as strong of a mounting. I expect that I'll eventually look for or make an appropriate replacement handle to re-hang the head, as I do like this axe.The sheath is thin, simple, riveted, but does the trick. The snap should be at the top. It's nice that it's included, but I wish it were just a little more substantial.Overall, this is a nice little hand axe. It would be appropriate for a processing kindling for a fire. It's a good choice if you don't need a pack axe or a small forestry axe for larger tasks.

This mini hatchet does away with all of the waste in a regular hatchet and reduces this essential tool to a manageable size for a large pocket or belt carry. The hatchet is easy to use to chop down medium sized trees. I cut down two small dead trees that were 5 to 6 inches in diameter and this hatchet helped me cut them down quickly without any blisters or hand pain. The pall on the back makes an excellent hammer or stake driver for camping. This is all the hatchet I will ever need and this is the only one I will be using from now on due to the sharp blade that holds an edge well. I do wish this had a belt sheath, but otherwise it is perfect for camping and general exploring.

If this was selling for $20, I'd have given it 4-5 stars, but for $30 you can get a 1.4lb fiskars that is not only super lightweight, but also nearly indestructible. The dull side of the axe head is angled so it can be used as a hammer, but axes aren't tempered the same as hammers, and striking something harder than the axe head (steel tent stakes) can cause cracks or warp the head. The sheathe that came with it is either pleather or made out of rat hide. Not a terrible axe, but also not a great one... for the price.
