Update: After a few months and about 5 more washes, the smell is gone. Solid rain coat. My daughter loves it.The coat is beautiful although sizing seems off. It runs big. The smell was nauseating. I've now washed it 3 times and it still has a faint smell. My daughter hasn't worn it outside of trying it on. Every time we grab it in case there's rain, she jokes with a dry heave to remind me it still stinks. I'm going to try some baking soda and vinegar. So far I've used oxyclean and tide.

Immediately out of the package there was a TERRIBLE smell. I washed using distilled white vinegar and twice after with detergent. Slight less smell. However it feels like there are chemicals or something all over the coat after all of these washings. I can't imagine this being good for anyone to wear, especially a child. I would NOT recommend. This is a big bummer as my daughter was very excited to get a hold raincoat. We're about to look for a different raincoat.

Bought this for our kindergartener to wear and bring to school when it looks like it's about to rain in the morning. We brought this for our travel too because of its lightweight. Will buy another one for a bigger size when this one becomes too small for her.
