I tried cutting an apple. How hard could that be? The answer: very difficult, with the blade resisting all movement during the downward slice. My wife, a professional chef, used it once, now refuses to use it.

We bought this to cut through Roxul insulation because the manufacturer recommended a serrated knife. It worked very well for that purpose.

I bought this to use as a "sandwich" knife -- cutting up tomatoes and slicing the sandwiches. When I sliced into the tomatoes, you could feel the blade scraping and tearing the tomato skin instead of cleanly slicing. What a shame, because I like the handle -- it's not a wimpy one that will cramp your hand. I also purchased the Zyliss 3 piece set for just a bit more than this single knife and all of them do a better job.
