I bought this item 3 years ago thinking it would be the last spreader I would ever need to buy. And my first impression was very positive. I was thinking that for this price all the metal parts would be stainless steel. And that's the problem ... they aren't. And i don't care how thoroughly you wash it after you use it ... ALL the metal parts are going to rust. All the screws, the hand crank, the gear box shaft ... everything that isn't plastic. Eventually you won't be able to turn the crank because the shaft has rusted so badly that it won't turn in it's bushing. I know all this because I completely dismantled the unit to try and repair it. But since every single screw is rusted ... well, you get the picture. Eventually I used a drill and drilled all the heads off all the screws and found that the crankshaft was very rusty. So ... I discovered the way I'm going to henceforth do all my fertilizing. Get a 3 gallon bucket; fill it with fertilizer; grasp a handful of fertilizer and throw it. Works great and will function as long as I'm alive.Save yourself some money, and frustration and get a bucket.

I did not purchase my seeder through Amazon but I like it so much that I feel it deserves a review. I have used a few versions of broadcast seeders for planting small plots of hay, summer cover crops and pastures. This is by far my favorite due to ergonomics, seeding rate, design and size. It is durable and not prone to spills and gets the job done. Even the gear ratio seems to match my walking pace to achieve consistent seeding results. I am in no way compensated or seeking personal gain for this review, simply happy to find a solid product that works.
