Bags are pretty sturdy. I don’t think I will break them carrying them around. However I opened one and drank it and can only compare the taste to ground up stink bugs. I’m assuming it’s the bag that’s given it the terrible taste.

There might be more cost effective ways to store water, but aside from that, I am generally satisfied with this product. I read a couple of reviews stating that the water "tastes bad" but it didn't taste bad to me at all. It just tastes like purified water, which I believe is all that it is. Besides, you're not intended to be drinking this stuff casually. It's for emergency situations. Taste is not important. With regard to durability, I'd say it's adequate, if not superior. I have actually left these packets in my car over the winter during which time they must have frozen solid, but none of them ever exploded or leaked, which is impressive. One thing that I think everybody buying these should do is wait until they are very, very thirsty, and then open one of these and drink it in order to get a sense of how much thirst it will quench in a real survival situation. For me, it was somewhat eye-opening just how LITTLE they actually do to quench thirst. This is not a knock against the product, I am just trying to inform you that there simply isn't much water in each packet. Each one is basically the size of one big gulp of water. So, basically, if you use these as actually recommended in the directions, it would only just barely be enough to keep you going, but you'd most likely experience extreme thirst. I know this is about survival, not about comfort, but this is just a heads up that you would probably need to drink around 3 times the recommended amount in order to feel "comfortable." Again, try it for yourself to get some perspective on how best to utilize these.Overall, I am happy with this product. I have purchased it many times and don't regret doing so.

Good for car traveling emergency stash. When it gets beyond shelf life I emptied them into my countertop water filter tank and used them —no waste.

Wonderful product! It came on time, and came in an undamaged box, with an expiration date five years out!I got 24 pouches of S.O.S drinking water, and immediately tore into one and drank it right away. It was a very pleasant experience! There was no chemical taste, and I was able to drink every last drop of the pouch. The pouches are very durable and although I would personally keep them in a hard case in my backpack to protect them, I think they would stand up to a decent amount of torture.I would recommend this product to anyone honestly. A good supply of drinking water to have in an emergency is something that everyone should have. So even if you got to this page by mistake, you should still by at least one pack of these. For me these are going straight into my car for emergencies.

It is very hard to open. I eventually used a nail clipper to cut it. I tasted the water and it is ok.

I would keep these in a very cushioned situation, or even bubblewrap the tops and enfold in a gallon-size ziploc bag if you are having this in a hiking backpack or emergency duffle kit. They have very sharp corners and one of my medium-quality ziploc bags split open below the zipper area. Regardless, I plan to keep a box in an emergency tub sitution as well...and they arrived in immaculate condition.Plastic looks good and expiration dates are clearly labeled. I'd mark the box or each package with a Sharpie to show the expiration date so you toss when expired, or try it out before it fully expires.I would recommend redundancy in your preparation plans, but these are a great basic source! Other than a large Nalgene water bottle and some water purification tablets, you could do well--as long as there is a source of water that isn't obviously repulsive or toxic/full of chemicals etc. If you had these, a Nalgene bottle and a couple of full sealed water bottles per person or pet that might have to be replaced once or twice a year, you'd be that much better off.Even if your town reservoir has an e. coli contamination, you may not be able to buy gallon jugs or any water. These are not cheap enough or big enough for personal hygeine, but they'll take care of basic liquid needs. The human body usually can't survive past about 48 hours or so without water, especially in high-heat or high activity.
