Arrived on time, good sturdy handle and easy to clean. Using it on my garden makes little effort in digging as it sharp. Happy customer 👍🏻

Purchased six months ago but has only just recently been used. This spade is stored in our garage. It should not snap at the shaft when using it to dig. It apparently comes with a 10 year warranty. In the first year you are supposed to claim via the place you purchased but Amazon don’t have a button or method for to do this as it was purchased over a month ago. Regardless of having to sort out the administration for the warranted the spade is far from satisfactory.

Best quality garden tool I’ve bought in 40 years. PERIOD. Quality, balance, design, ruggedness, elegant. I’m sure it will be passed on to my grandchildren at least!

I brought this space so that when I dig I do not rip the bottom of my boots. As I have always used Spear and Jackson for my business and not been let down it was only natural to stick to the same manufacturer. I am not disappointed.

I was excited to get this spade, thinking I would love it and it might last me a lifetime. However, there are several several characteristics of this spade which make it unacceptable for my use, and actually I do not use it. The only use I have for it is to make a yard marker; I stand it up in prospective planting locations to see over a few days from several angles if the location is right. The spade is well made, and works great as a lawn ornament.Reasons why this spade design sucks:1. The spade is very heavy, and the head very thick and with the long shank this is a real chore to work with... I do a lot of digging, chopping and lifting out of soil and turf and just cant abide all that extra weight. You might think being heavy would make it easier to drive down... and maybe it could be were it not a thick blade and dull as can be, so it is a poor driver. Also a poor driver because of reason 2.2. The head is at an extreme angle to the handle. My preferred spade has a head that is in line with the handle, so that when I drive it down into the ground or material, everything is aligned; I can also step on the blade and push on the handle at the same time to drive harder. The head on this spade is at an angle like a dinner fork, so maybe it could give some leverage when popping up some turf, it is an utter fail to drive into anything. Also when I stand on the blade to give more weight to cut into turf, I have to hold the handle about 2 feet in front of me to have the head at the right attack angle; that is very awkward.3. The back of the head has angled cleats to give you better ability to step on the blade (without cutting your boot). This is a nice feature, but only when the cleat is bent forward. This has them bent backward, and shame on me for not inspecting the photo better before buying (I mean the Kew people should have approved this design , right???). Why is this a problem, for those who don't garden... First, when you want to dig holes that are deeper than one spit (head depth) and there is a big cleat facing toward you on the head, it gets hung up on the edge of the hole every time. Second, when you want to scoop material out of you barrow, and you slide the back of the spade down the edge, the cleat will continually catch hard on the edge of the barrow. Second, if you want to empty a barrow with this design, those cleats will keep catching on the edge of the barrow which is very frustrating, as is working around that impediment. To address the positives, I would start with the stainless nature. Occasionally my other spades get rusty as I leave them out once in a while, but, amazingly, continuing to use the tool brushes the rust off, and it is a total non-issue, so the Stainless aspect of this one is not really that big of a big deal, other than that it is shiny and pretty. Also, I have broken more than one spade or fork handle (trying to left shrubs like roses), so maybe the long steel shank could prove to beat my other spade for prying strength, but unless I decide to spend the time to grind a sharp edge on it, it wont be used to cut roots and drive under shrubs. In hind sight the super dull edge could have been a whole bullet point as well, since with the crazy angle and thickness, at least a sharp working end might have made up for a little bit. Conclusion is that this spade is a total disappointment for me.
