I order many locks to review and this unique lock I liked so well I ordered a second one, despite having lots of spare locks already. But this design is different, and it's extremely well done. When the price was discounted as well I could not resist but to order a second one at sub $25 which is a great value, especially with the steel braided cable thrown in.This is what I'd call a mini U lock, having a super thick "shackle" but being smaller than U locks generally are. The "shackle" is simply much thicker than any padlock shackle I've ever seen which has the obvious benefit of deterring certain cutting attacks.Further, this "U" as well as this lock's body have an exceptionally nice rubberized coating. Thus this entire lock has nothing on it that might scratch the paint on my bike. Further, with the keyless locking feature, even when maneuvering in a difficult tight spot to lock this lock to some inconvenient fixed object, it's far easier to accomplish - no key to turn, just align the locking piece to the U piece and push them together. This is an exceptionally good lock for metal gates. Normally chains and padlocks are used on chain link or steel grid type gates, but chains and padlock shackles tend to be vulnerable to bolt cutters. This beast I doubt anyone will try to defeat with bolt cutters, yet the smaller "U" size means it may not visually detract from a nice fence/gate. It may also be a better "fit."The bike mounting bracket is exceptional as well. Many U locks I've owned had cheaply made, disappointing mounting brackets. This one is great, both the design and the robustness of construction. It also requires the U lock be not just mounted to the bracket but locked to the bracket. This means that if you pop into a store just for a minute not locking your bike that nobody can simply grab your lock and be off with it. They would have to unscrew a couple of screws, which by the way are nice quality stainless steel screws that are not undersized for holding the bracket. The quality of this combo product is excellent, but even more surprising given the low price. The value is outstanding.

Seems super secure. I wish it were a tad bigger but seems real high quality especially for the price.

If someone really, really wants a bike, and has time, they will probably take it. But we can slow them down. My husband and I have "old folks" bikes now. (Actually I wish I had this when I was young!) We both want to keep our second hand step thru Biria bikes for a long time. The Sportneer U Lock Set is sturdy, as well as the coated cable that comes with it. I really like that there are 3 keys. I have a Kryptonite lock that just has 2 keys. I think the Sportneer is easier to operate than my lock. Also the Sportneer lock is completely rubber coated to protect the bike. The option to mount the lock to the bike is nice, but we won't use that, as we have baskets. We are pleased with the lock and receiving this a couple days ago prompted us to check tire pressure and get riding.

This bicycle locking set gets high marks for sizing, portability, design, protective coating, and ease-of use. I did not expose it to destructive testing for resistance to cutting, grinding, or prying, although the manufacturer claims it deserves a high security rating. It does seem very solid, and it locks on both sides of the u-lock, which is an important security feature. Two things deserve highlighting as uniquely helpful features: (1) Once the locking bar is removed, the key is not needed to close the lock--it simply presses into place and clicks securely closed. Whether this feature is more or less secure, I have no idea, but it is definitely more convenient than a conventional ulock, which means it is more likely to be used--and obviously likelihood of use is an important measure of the value of bringing the lock along for a ride: (2) the lock is sized so that it fits snuggly into the rear pocket of my riding jeans, and the rubberized coating keeps it securely in place, which makes it convenient for urban commuting. The included 5' cable has Velcro straps at BOTH ends near the loops, making it easier to securely and compactly coil and so also more likely to be conveniently carried and available for use. The alloy shackle is advertised as resistant to cutting and grinding. It seems slightly thinner than my gold-standard Abus locks, and also slightly narrower and lighter, but still looks substantial, and if used with the included cable would be a good deterrent to casual theft. How it would stand up to a focussed attack with an angle grinder is an open question. The rubberized coating is solid and sturdy and the hexagonal cross section of the unit makes it rest smoothly against the bike frame, instead of putting all the weight on one pressure point. So the design and concept of this lock is exceptional, and it seems very sturdy and well made. It ships with three keys. The lock cylinder itself seems smaller than I would expect on a lock of this size, but it functions well.

This lock does a pretty basic job, but I don't think it will keep my bike from being stolen. It is heavy and strong, but the quality is mediocre.

Very well built, heavy! This should deter any wanna-be thieves. I use it for my scooter.

I really like this lock and chose it over the four that I ordered. It’s a bit short to work with, but the rubberized coating feels nice and will avoid unwanted clanking. It also had the best mounting option to fit out of the way on my bike. It actually locks to the mount and sits snugly in place.I also like the lightweight plastic coated cable that was provided with it. I can lock the bike to my rear wheel with the lock and then run the cable around a rack or pole and also any accessories on my bike that I don’t want grabbed.Yes, you can cut through the cable quicker than the U bolt, but you still can’t ride away. It’s one extra step to slow or prevent a thief from grabbing your bike.
