I haven’t felt any of the sponginess some folks say comes with using a thick spindle crank in a bb86. I experience the same level of stiffness that I felt on my bb92 equipped bike that I had come to love and appreciate. Though the biggest difference I felt is when I switched my stick BSA bb to a dub bb and XX1 crank. His much of that was the crank vs the bb I’m not sure but switching to a dub setup was like night and day from stock. A vital upgrade for any serious cyclist that should come 2nd only after a good set of carbon fiber rims. These two things will give your bike an entirely new life.

The BB does it job well enough. But this review is more for the PF86 DUB combination. PF86 has a diameter 41mm and DUB is 30mm (Shimano is 24mm). The size of the bearings and inner balls are very small. This cause a lot of friction and bearing life will be less. If possible avoid PF86 DUB combination.Again, BB does it's job well, I just don't expect much of it.

I was surprised to find that the bottom bracket I received seemed to have bad bearings. The bearings had an unexpectedly high amount of rolling resistance right out of the box with uneven friction on either side of the bracket which was not always uniform throughout rotation. I have to admit that I generally buy higher end bottom brackets with nicer bearings installed, so I wondered for a moment if this bearing feel was standard at this price point. Still, the oddly high and uneven friction was very concerning... I went ahead and installed it in my frame to test it out with a crankset. I found the fit between the BB, frame, and spindle were perfect, but the cranks did not spin freely, let alone as easily or smoothly as one might expect. After installing the BB, I was just as uncomfortable with the apparent friction as from the offset and believed it to be defective. The BB did function to an extent, but not in the manner that I believe it to have been designed. I ultimately purchased and installed another, more 'higher end', bottom bracket from a different manufacturer and did not experience any bearing resistance or other issues.I accept that the experience that I had with this particular DUB BB is most likely a fluke and will probably try another SRAM BB again in future.
