I always go for SRAM. They are just high quality, rock solid chains and the PowerLink makes fitting them a doddle.I didn't really appreciated the reliability until I used a different brand that I had lying around. The other brand (German!) failed with a link snapping after about 5 months of winter riding, but I have NEVER had a SRAM chain fail on me.I don't know if I could tell the difference between the 971 and the model down, but the price difference isn't huge given how long they last.SRAM chains are made in Portugal, which is great news if you are trying to avoid certain less ethical countries.

I have been using Shimano chains for decades. I’d decided to give this a try due the the simplicity of the power link. No guessing if the chain rivet is in the perfect position or not. I could not be more pleased. I use this chain with an XT chain ring and a Rolhoff rear hub. Meshes perfectly. When I installed this chain, i left it a bit tight because in my experience, all chains stretch a bit on the first few rides. After 3 rides 80km this chain had not stretched a bit. I had to adjust my exccetric BB to give the chain a little slack.I am not sure if this chain is better than shimano with a derailleur or not, but for single speed or geared hub, i am very impressed. The power link also makes th chain easy to remove to clean and reinstall in seconds.

No doubt this is a great choice in bike chains. Would not for a min. Hesitate in recommending as a great replacement chain . Just a quick note you may want to concider. Like most of you I try my best to get the most from my investment. Lots of expensive fancy lubes. Special chain cleaning machines and the end result is the chains seemed to wear out rather quickley. Here is what I discovered. Once you add oil to you chain problems begin. 2 seconds into your ride that fancy lube changes from a lube to a very efficient lapping compound. The dust and grit begin the fast process of grinding your new chain to a quick death. Even the so called dry lubes are not much better. What I now do is super simple, inexpensive and tripled the expected life of the chain. Plus no more oil on the pant legs all components stay clean and shifting is greatly improved. Couple of blocks of Parrifin canning wax melted in a pot. Soak the chain. Hang and let cool and install. Simple. Using a park chain gauge I can not believe how much longer these great chains last. Best of all no more mess. Check Youtube for videos on how to wax.

This is a great chain for the price. I knocked it down a star because SRAM does not provide installation instructions, so I had to look them up on my phone with greasy fingers. Further, the instructions I did find were generic to several different chains, so kind of a hassle to figure out. I do appreciate the provided master link. That made installing the chain literally a snap (that's the sound the link made when it clicked into place).

This is a great middle of the road SRAM chain. and is part of the X.7 family. Had no issues installing on a 9 speed mountain bike. The power link technology is a nice time-saver. The chain came together with a simple click after shortened it to the correct length. I paired this with the 970 cassette and the bike is whisper quiet during pedaling and shifts flawlessly. Liked it so much that I purchased one for the my road bike that gets about 1000 miles per year of use.

SRAM makes a great chain. I've been using them for probably 15 years. Obviously a chain isn't a very glamorous item, but by creating their power link technology, they have really revolutionized putting on and taking off a chain. Works great. All you need to do is use the chain tool to adjust length, and then you're good to go.This chain was to replace another SRAM chain, same model. By the time I replaced it, it had been on my bike for close to three years. For most of that time I was commuting on my bike. Now I lived fairly close to work, so that was only maybe a mile or two per day in commuting, with maybe another 20 miles a week in longer distance rides when the weather was nice. But still, that's probably between 600 and 1000 miles per year, and in all weather. I would ride in rain, snow, etc.During that three years, I would regularly measure the chain for any wear or stretch. And even when I replaced the chain, there was still minimal stretch. Under 1/8", measured over 6 full links, or 6 inches. It also did great as far as performance: drivetrain was always smooth. Everything was SRAM X-7, with a Truvativ Firex crank, and it was always silky smooth to shift, and very smooth when pedaling. The only reason I needed to replace the chain was that I was overseas a lot last year, and it sat in a friend's garage for over 4 months, with absolutely no attention at all. So that old faithful chain finally succumbed to rust. I'm sure I could've brought it back if I had given it a good cleaning and lube, but I figured after 3 years, I would just treat my bike to a new chain.

After several thousand miles of use, I needed to replace my SRAM bicycle chain (on my Specialized Roubaix road bike). The chain worked very well, so I bought the same chain, SRAM PC 971, thru Amazon. The pricing was excellent, and I qualified for free shipping over $25 when I bought 2 chains (always good to have a spare around, I say). With its PowerLink connector, installing the new chain (and taking off my old chain) was super easy. The only tool I needed was my chain tool for removing excess links. Fellow bicyclists, if you have no time for any other maintenance, always try to be kind to your bike's chain! Keep it clean of dirt & grease and oil it periodically (no need to spray oil all over everything, only the rollers need one drop each).
