I recently installed a used XX1 derailer and shifter on my bike. The shifter barrel adjuster was broken when I bought it, so I needed to add an inline adjuster. Choices seemed to be cheap and nasty or SRAM so I went for these.For:They look nice, low profile and sleek.No slippage in use. The click mechanism stops any creep messing up your adjustments.Against:The level of adjustment is very small. Great for fine tuning, terrible for removing slack. You need to pull the cable tight at the derailer and only use the barrel for fine tuning.The mechanism is stiff. You need to hold both ends to keep it from spinning. OK when it’s on a bike stand, but mid-ride adjustments are a pain. No one handed twiddling possible.Summary:You could add both on a single cable to give a bit more adjustment, but with a few goes I got the bike up and running. They did the job, with some minor issues, so 4* from me.

Added to a shifter cable and it seems to be just fine. Note that the ones I got were well sized for an interference fit on a shifter cable. I believe brake cables are a different size.

Put these on a bike that had rusted out barrel adjusters and they did the job just fine.

The SRAM Compact Barrel Adjusters are a high quality pair of inline adjusters which are very useful for fine-tuning of your gearing if your frame lacks downtube adjusters. The adjusters are small as the name suggests and once fitted into a run 4.0mm shifter cable outer they look very discreet. They allow quick, easy set up and micro-adjustment of both the front and rear derailleurs simply by turning the outer barrel. The build-quality and finish feels robust and I don't anticipate any longevity problems with these items.

Nicely built, but they have a very small amount of adjustment. Almost to the point of being useless. Get something else.

This is an absolutely terrible product. I decided to pay the extra money for what I thought would be a quality, brand name product, and got a adjusters that are completely inoperative.Inline adjusters are meant to be easy to spin on the fly: these adjusters, on the other hand, WILL NOT SPIN. Even with with loose cable tension (in fact, I tried with my cable completely disconnected from derailleur), any attempt to spin them will simply result in your cable housing spinning with it.After installing it, I even removed the adjuster from the housing and tried to spin it on its own. STILL WILL NOT SPIN. The only way to spin it? Grabbing the end with a pair of plyers hard enough that it damages and scratches the finish. Only then will the stupid thing spin and actually adjust.I am now left with plyer-damaged adjusters that have to be gripped with plyers to adjust them. Completely useless waste of time and money. Never buying SRAM product again.
