I used these on a recent fence project to attach the top boards. With the coating and thread cutting flute they drove right in with no splitting. The washer head holds better than the standard counter sink screw and remains on the surface so it doesn't create a depression where water collects.

My wife wanted two "floating" shelves in the kitchen of our old farmhouse. She found the wood, part of an old cattle feeder, out in our barn. I thought a smart way to hang them was to use my Kreg pocket hole jig to drill holes that line up with the studs and mount them with large wood screws. It worked, but the shelves didn't feel secure. The wood is very soft, probably cottonwood, and the wood screws with countersink style heads would just drive deeper and deeper but never really get tight. I bought these WoodPro washer head screws thinking they would bottom out in the pocket hole and pull tight. They worked exactly as I hoped they would. I put 5 screws in each shelf. Each screwed into a stud, which are oak. I weigh 200 pounds and can hang on these shelves with no problem. They aren't going anywhere.
