My trailer came with a different version of these STAR BRITE retractable tie downs with coated hooks that started rusting after one year. These stainless steel retractable transom tie downs seem to be significantly better. There is a clear metallic click when ratcheting, they both fully retract, and I actually like the exposed metal hooks since moisture can't slip inside and corrode the metal. I'm very pleased with this product.

Had my previous tie downs break (10 years old). The one from Ranger were very expensive, these were reasonable price and I like how they operate and how solid they feel. I got the stainless version, but probably didn't have to.

We had an issue with the threads on the bolts and nuts. They threaded on far enough for me to think the thread pitch of the two was the same. But as I was close to a point where the nut should get tight cause is the thickness of the mounting point the nut would get tight. But the strap bracket was not tight. I had to cut one bolt/nut off. The other one I had to keep working it back and forth, when it came off the bolt and nut was trashed. I work on CNC machine tools for a living. I know these are stainless but something did not mesh. I had to use the old bolts. But I wanted you to know for people who don’t know this stuff like me.

The description says that the stainless steel hooks are coated, they are not, this will be fixed with plasti dip so they will not scratch the hull, not a big deal but misleading. The description also says there are 6 pieces… there are two, very misleading, especially for the price paid. We will see how the “stainless steel” holds up to salt water.

Installed on the boat trailer with all the necessary parts. Look like they’ll do the job and do it will. Time will tell how they hold up in the saltwater conditions.

These Star brite tie-downs came standard on my boat trailer but in the non-stainless version. I ended up replacing mine as someone backed up into my trailer and bent one of my old ones. Since I had to replace them, I upgraded to the stainless version. They make it quick and easy to connect and disconnect the rear tie-downs. Others have told me they have forgotten to ensure the straps are secure after "stowing" them and ended up with them wrapped around their propellers but this hasn't happened to me.I've only made one modification, the non-stainless versions had a vinyl coating over the hook which helped to not scratch the boat. The stainless version did not come with that coating. I purchased some black Plasti-dip and my problems were solved. Looks like it came from the factory coated. It was a 5 minute install as my trailer already had the mounting holes. Great product and seems to be of good quality.
